| Lord Nedd02-26-07, 01:02 PM | Hello and thank you, Empowered Turning increases turning damage x1.5 . It is applied to the equation that determines the total number of undead hit dice you can affect. When a character elects to forgo normal turning ability and substitutes Lightbringer's 'Destroy Undead' , how does Empowered Turning affect it? Also, what benefit does Greater turning have on this new ability , if any? In my campaign, empowered turning and greater Turning don't affect at all the light bringer's ability to destroy undead, as they have entirely different mechanics. What the destroy undead mechanic does is guarantee you the ability to affect every undead creature you come across. That is quite significant. For example, in the early part of EtCR (Expedition to Castle Ravenloft), your party is likely to stumble upon a Blaspheme (18HD) monster. Even at your best, a 7th level Cleric twinked out to be a Undead Turn-meister isn't going to be able to affect the creature. Let us recap: The best you can muster is your level +4 on your turn attempt. You may be able to find a trinket that boosts your turn attempts by +4, so you would need to be about 10th level to even remotely affect said creature with turning. At the end of the adventure, you will be around 10th or 11th level. Ouch. Now, for those lucky folks that have invested in destroy undead, you are able to hurt the blaspheme (undead get a will save at DC10 + cleric level + cha bonus for half). It would make you helpful in combating the creature if you are of the flavor best defense is a good offense. Laying down a smackdown for 7d6 every round is rather nice and given that the blaspheme has an incredible amount of hitpoints, it might be the edge you need depending if you have others that can do good direct damage attacks. |
