| DarkAvatar08-04-07, 04:53 PM | I understand the rules for rebuking turning after I read them... but I have a simple question if a player rebukes a sentient undead... and succeeds (ie exceeds his hitdice blah blah) does the sentient undead get no save of some kind? Also.. is there no duration? It seems to be permanent >_< It seems a bit strange that they don't seem to (from what I've read) give the poor sentient undead any form of resistance (besides maybe turn resistance as most undead have) I'm mainly asking because one of my current players is a dread necromancer... and I fear to send them up against any undead... otherwise they will bolster his already hideously large undead army. Which brings me to another question... Can undead be stored in a bag of holding and called up (As a full round action mind you) when needed? |
| Marcus Majarra08-04-07, 06:26 PM | Undead, sentient or otherwise, get no saves to avoid a cleric's attempt to turn or rebuke them. Their only possible edge is to have turn resistance. Keep in mind that your dread necromancer must be of a level at least twice as big as the undead's HD + turn resistance to command the undead. Commanding undead through rebuking has no time limit. As for storing undead in a bag of holding, they would have to be small enough to fit through its opening. And if the necromancer wants to bring them out, then he has to be strong enough to lift them out of there. |
| DarkAvatar08-05-07, 02:41 AM | I also rationalized the entry thing.... but theres no clear ruling on that anywhere is there? also, (say we ignored the entry thing) could he not stick his head in the bag and "order" his undead out? (to get around the strength thing?) |
| DarkAvatar08-08-07, 01:02 PM | *bump* still haven't thought of a solution for my over eager necr... any ideas? |
| Sarella Starshine08-08-07, 05:36 PM | Does the Dread Necromancer have a HD limit on the amount of undead he controls (I dont have HoH so I ask that)? If so, inforce it. Keep a running total on the HD of udead he has controled, if he controls more than the limit, he starts to lose control of his undead army. If the undead that he lost control of were sentient... |
| Kouk08-09-07, 10:24 AM | Well, "Rebuking" lasts 10 rounds. Controlling doesn't have a set duration, but you might consider giving Intelligent Undead another Save every 24 hours. |
| Zealot08-09-07, 12:03 PM | As for undead fitting into a bag of holding that is easy, the bag of holdinig is described as being pretty big (similar to a pillow case in size). Most medium sized undead would fit. As for getting the undead out, you might be able to set the bag down on its side, pull out and place the hand of one of them on the ground next to the bag and tell it to pull itself out. Even a weak necro could pull that off. Better to just go with a portable hole and a ladder though. |
| Eater_Of_Souls08-09-07, 12:45 PM | Rebuking is a roughly a same as destroying UD so yes your player could have up 40 (1/2hd) skeletons with him if he likes. But effect ends as soon as those ud move 60ft way from him which is how far the effect extends. Necromancer likely has better ways to deal with this "little" problem :p You can put UD's against him no problem just play them as you would play with an enthralled NPC that one point gets released... Also effect ends immediatly if the cleric loses consentration and commanding UD is move equivalent action, so controlling UD isn't really that big a question. Imn other words just controlling UD with turning alone just won't work he has get some other means of permanent control. And if the army gets too big well have good cleric to turn his sentient unwilling UD ... |
| Myers08-10-07, 12:31 PM | And if the army gets too big well have good cleric to turn his sentient unwilling UD ... Better yet an evil cleric to command them to switch sides |
