I know that being blinded or being in a dark area where you can't see (for example, a character without darkvision in a dungeon with no light sources, ) reduces movement to half. But what about conditions like fog, that generally allow for 5' of visibility and that's all? I found "Difficult terrain, obstacles, or poor visibility can hamper movement." in the Carrying and Exploration document, and would call this situation poor visibility. Is there a better example or reference than this one, though? |

But what about conditions like fog, that generally allow for 5' of visibility and that's all?I believe so (i.e. that's how I've normally seen it played). I found "Difficult terrain, obstacles, or poor visibility can hamper movement." in the Carrying and Exploration document, and would call this situation poor visibility. | 1 ton ghost10-26-07, 02:39 PM | technically, just about anything that provides Concealment halves movement. i still employ some 3rd Ed rules concerning this. i don't believe in "you either have 20% Con or 50% or 1/2 cover (+4AC) or 'Improved' (+8AC)." that is, there were more degrees thereof in 3.0 Concealment went from 10%-50% Cover from 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 7/8, 9/10, and total. far more realistic. encourages more weapon play (consider x-bows and walls, kneeling, etc.) i know now, darkness and the like 1/2 movement, so does fog technically, but it's not quite the same, you know? so, i'll say 3/4 (fog) movement in some cases. of course terrain can change this too. going uphill is 1/2, if it's also in a forest (not on a trail), that's 1/2 too, so you're at 1/4 move. climbing OUT OF a trench is 1/2 move (for that 1 square), but if it's foggy down there too, up it even more. this is why i'm a real big fan of anything that ups mobility. |
