| rikimaru7504-16-07, 08:53 AM | If a caster (level 11+ Sorceror for example) casts resist energy (cold) on themselves, then they will receive 30 resistance to cold. What happens if that caster gets attacked by a Maximized Hailstones (Spell Compendium) from a 20th level caster and sets all four globes of hail at our said Sorceror? Pending all four globes hit, would each hail stone globe count as a separate set of cold damage or accumulated as one? The same question would apply for a spell like Scorching Ray for those that are not too familiar with Hailstones. Of course, resist energy would be fire in the Scorching Ray case. Thanks in advance. |

| rikimaru7504-16-07, 09:00 AM | so you can't cast resistance energy 3 times and have resistance to energy cold, fire, and electricity? |
| Leilond04-16-07, 09:02 AM | I suppose he's telling you cannot cast 3 time "resist energy (cold)" to be nearly "immune to cold" |
| rikimaru7504-16-07, 09:05 AM | Ok. I understand that. I just wanted some clarification. At level 11+ caster level, resist energy gives resist selected energy type 30, and that suffices enough if the damage is 5d6 cold (30 maximized) for each globe of hailstones and 24 fire for scorching ray. |

True, though there is the corner case of one of the ranged touch attacks for scorching ray being a critical hit. Not familiar with hailstones; crits might apply there too. |
