| thundrio04-21-08, 07:42 PM | i am a fairly new dm with some questions about the rules that are not very clear in the 3.5 core books. first of all on the barbarians class the table of attack bonuses says +20/+15/+10/+5 for level 20. does that mean that the 20 is for the barbarians first attack, the 15 is for his second, and so on and so forth? also i need to know the rules for wagons.(how much it can hold etc etc) finally i was reading the dm guide a while ago i found a variant on determining ability scores where you distribute your points at first level(like baulders gate + icewind dale + nwn) and i liked it, but i cant find it now. anybody know what page it is on, thanks. |

It means that the barbarian has iterative attacks. Yes, his first attack has a bonus of +20, his next a bonus of +15, then +10, and finally +5. This is a four-wheeled, open vehicle for transporting heavy loads. In general, two horses (or other beasts of burden) draw it. A wagon comes with the harness needed to pull it. From that, I would gather that it could carry an arbitrarily large amount of weight, provided that you don't try to put something on it that is too large (like the carcass of the Huge dragon you just slaughtered). Otherwise, pretty free range of weight. As far as the variant ability score generations, I went to the index in the back of the DMG and looked up Ability Score Generation. It says page 169. |

Yes, they are showing when and at what base bonus the Barbarian (or Fighter, or Paladin, or anyone with full BAB progression) makes iterative attacks. Keep in mind the BAB is still the first number, the rest are there for your convenience in calculating iterative attacks, which are always made at a -5 penalty. also i need to know the rules for wagons.(how much it can hold etc etc) The core books have no real rules about that issue. The closest to rules is the Rules of the Game Article series, "Going Metric." In article 4, http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040406a you can scroll down to where it suggests that a wagon can carry up to 2 tons total. Skip Williams is one of the designers of the game, so this is about as close to a rule as you will get. finally i was reading the dm guide a while ago i found a variant on determining ability scores where you distribute your points at first level(like baulders gate + icewind dale + nwn) and i liked it, but i cant find it now. anybody know what page it is on, thanks. tos_shai_hulud is right, the ability score generation method you are looking for begins on 169 of the DMG, Point Buy. |

The core rules don't have it, but the 'Arms and Equipment guide' has a very nice chapter about all different types of vehicles. Here's what it says about standard wagons: Huge Vehicle Handle animal -2 Spd: Drawn HP: 60 hardness: 5 AC: 3 attack: ram (4d6) Face: 15x10 ft Height: 5 ft Crew: 1 Weight: 400 lbs Cargo capacity: 2 tons |

I don't know if you were just using that as an example or not. However, I just wanted to say, I have seen novice DMs (and players) make the mistake of starting off using high-level characters because they want all these neat abilities then spend most of their time looking up rules. It is better to start slow and build a solid rules foundation than to jump into the deep end. |
