| Zinger209901-09-08, 10:04 PM | How does Sanctuary deal with Grapple and Grapple based special attacks? More specifically, the scenario I am in results in an Advanced Huge Crab that clawed a player who had Sanctuary (after suceeding it's Will save), and then, as part of it's Improved Grab, initiated Grapple as a free action. On it's next turn, it began to Constrict(EX) the player. My question is, did the Crab have to make a Will save to initiate it's Grapple as part of it's imrpoved grab? More importantly, now that the player is grappled, does the Crab have to make a Will save every time it Constricts the player? Also, does a creature who suceeded his Will save against Sanctuary have to make a new will save every time it attacks the player? Or does beating the save once make him overcome the effects of Sanctuary permanently? (This one I am fairly positive would be making the save each time, as nothing sugests otherwise, but I thought I'd clarify it just the same while I am asking about Sanctuary) Thanks in advance for your help. I paused the game mid session for this question, so, a quick reply would be greatly apreaciated. Sanctuary Abjuration Level: Clr 1, Protection 1 Components: V, S, DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature touched Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: No Any opponent attempting to strike or otherwise directly attack the warded creature, even with a targeted spell, must attempt a Will save. If the save succeeds, the opponent can attack normally and is unaffected by that casting of the spell. If the save fails, the opponent can’t follow through with the attack, that part of its action is lost, and it can’t directly attack the warded creature for the duration of the spell. Those not attempting to attack the subject remain unaffected. This spell does not prevent the warded creature from being attacked or affected by area or effect spells. The subject cannot attack without breaking the spell but may use nonattack spells or otherwise act. |

If that save is failed, the attacking creature cannot attack the warded creature for the duration of the spell. If the creature makes the save, it can attack the warded creature normally and is unaffected by that casting of sanctuary. Thus, if the crab managed to bypass the spell's effect on the attack that would initiate the grapple, then the crab can continue attacking the warded creature normally. |
