| Nom09-10-07, 09:53 AM | Yes. You can find it either (1) by omission, in that the rules say you get a save and only a few very specific exceptions qualify this to say you don't, or (2) by checking the FAQ. Note that helpless characters (including unconscious ones) have effective Dex 0. This means a -5 Dex modifier to Ref saves as well as the loss of any dodge bonuses thereto. Will and Fort saves are unaffected by unconsciousness. In addition, I rule that an unconscious character may not voluntarily attempt a save against a harmless spell nor voluntarily fail a save against a non-harmless one. Note that this is different to the rule that unconscious characters are considered "willing". That rule applies to spells such as dimension door that allow no save but explicitly only affect willing targets. |

Also, from the 3.5 FAQ (if desired): "A character can attempt a Reflex save anytime she is subjected to an effect that allows a Reflex save. A Reflex save usually involves some dodging, but a Reflex save does not depend completely on a character’s ability to move around. It also can depend on luck, variations in the effect that makes the save necessary in the first place, and a host of other miraculous factors that keep heroic characters in the D&D game from meeting an untimely fate." "If you’re helpless, your Dexterity score is effectively 0. You still can make Reflex saves, but your Dexterity modifier is –5. You’re helpless whenever you are paralyzed, unconscious, or asleep." |
