Yes, a greatclub is merely a more impressive, two-handed version of its smaller brethren.

And considering Shillelagh only functions for the caster's weapon, this shouldn't be too overpowering since druids are not proficient with the greatclub.

03-16-07, 07:59 AM The spell specifically says club or quarterstaff, so I would say no. Especially since oil of shillelagh is listed as a magic item. Applying that to a greatclub would make it deal 3d8+1 damage for a Medium creature, which seems a bit much for a 1st-level spell.

03-18-07, 08:50 PM I can't really see why not though - a greatclub is a form of club, and since it is basically the same as a large sized club, it seems odd that it would work on one and not the other.

Also, just about any weapon could theoretically be used as an improvised club.

Anyone getting ideas?

And other factors to consider:

Shillelagh is a druid spell.

A oaken club is a simple weapon that a druid has proficiency with.
A oaken quarterstaff is a simple weapon that a druid has proficiency with.

A greatclub is a martial weapon that a druid does not have proficiency with. I don't agree that a larger club should suddenly become a martial weapon, but them's the breaks. Druid do not have martial proficiency (with a few exceptions) so I'd have to say no...

I seen it allowed and I've seen it banned. Expect table variation.

08-29-07, 04:37 PM Simply put, a Greatclub is NOT just a larger club. A club is balanced for throwing, and the bulk of the force involved comes from the wielder. A greatclub is balanced for striking, with the bulk of the force coming from the weight of the club itself.
