| The_Great_Fa05-03-07, 10:09 PM | I was wondering about damage reduction that's listed as #/enhancement bonus (like 10/+3). Does this mean that it takes a weapon that literally has a +3 enhancement bonus on it or can the weapon have a combination of enhancement bonus and abilities that equal +3 or greater together? I know some weapon abilities only have prices listed, and not enhancement bonuses, which would seem to point me in the right direction, but I'd still like some feedback. |
| OamuTheMonk05-03-07, 10:34 PM | The weapon has to have an enhancement bonus equal to the DR in order to bypass it. So, yes, a +3 sword (not a +1 Keen, flaming, sword) would be required to bypass DR 10/+3. On that note, DR/+X was done away with in 3.5, thankfully. It tops out at DR/magic now. Unless you get into Epic... |
| Burgundy Lotus05-04-07, 08:02 AM | That system of DR is thankfully defunct. You can treat some of the DR/+s as DR/magic and others as different types of metal (cold iron, silver, adamantine) or aligned (good, evil) as appropriate, though you'll need the Monster Manual 3.5 to see how things changed. |
| Kuronue05-04-07, 11:11 PM | Ask anyone who plays 2nd ED. Sometimes, "defunct" rules are still used in play. Maybe the OP is still playing 3.0? |
| Alcari Ambaron05-05-07, 12:30 PM | still, most of us play using the 3.5 rules, by which all magic swords are treated the same. Also, changing the 10/+3 ruling to 10/magic is unfair, seeing how it is more simple to aquire a "magic" weapon then a +3 weapon. I believe most changes are like the above, but several are modified in another way to compensate for the weaker DR. |
| Kuronue05-05-07, 01:39 PM | The 3.5 update guide suggests totally redoing the DR on various creatures from scratch since the DRs in 3.0 tended to be higher overall than the new ones, as well as bypassed by more difficult things. |
