Does the Snap Kick feat from Tome of battle allow this additional attack when taking an AoO? It says you get it whenever you make a melee attack, which an AoO clearly is, however it also lists three examples of when you get it and Im unclear if those three examples are the only situations where it applies or not.

It would seem to work by the rules as written.

Sounds like a candidate for rule 0.

By the examples given in the feat, I take the intent to mean that you gain an additional attack whenever you take an attacking action. An AoO is not an attack action, and thus would not apply.

They are using the 'make a melee attack' phrase as a description of a game mechanic, not a logical engish wording of 'whenever you swing your weapon'.

...but an attack of opportunity is a melee attack (or more accurately it is a free action which must be a melee attack).

Sure, by the laws of english it is 'an attack'; but by the mechanical rules it is not an 'attack action'.

I'm not saying I couldn't be wrong, I'm going by the examples cited (which are: Making a standard attack, full attack, or executing a maneuver), which indicate to me that the intent is for attack actions.

Their choice of words for this feat just seems to be all around bad. If they dropped the word includes and just listed those three options it would make things so much simpler. Though if it werent for the -2 penalty that reminds me so much of Flurry and TWF I'd almost think it was intended to work with AoOs by their use of the phrase "melee attack", though "melee attack action" would still technically include an AoO.

While you're all pondering this question I have a second one to accompany this feat. Using a trip attack with this kick attack just feels really cool to me, but what happens if you attempt a disarm? I'd think by the RAW you would still end up holding whatever you disarm.

Heh... I've got a third question.

Does the attack granted by Snap Kick count as a melee attack action? Would the attack trigger the feat again, granting what amounts of infinite attacks? (This would never be allowed by any DM. But it's interesting nonetheless.)
