"A mob is a gargantuan creature composed of either forty-eight Small or Medium creatures or twelve Large Creatures. Check. Next page. "A mob has a single pool of Hit Dice and hit points. All Mobs have 30 Hit Dice." Check. "Reducing a Mob to 0 hit points or lower causes it to break up... mobs are never staggered or reduced to a dying state by damage" OK. "Each specific creature that is slain bestows 2 negative levels on a mob. A mob that gains negative levels equal to it's hit dice [30, from what has been stated earlier] breaks up as if reduced to 0 Hit points. So... does that mean that in a mob of 48 humans or goblins or whatever, if you manage to take out 15 of the 48, the crowd disperses and all of a sudden you are left with a standard fight of (48-15=33) humans or goblins vs the party? Do the rest just die/vanish? I'm just not sure quite sure how this mob mechanic is supposed to work. Can anyone point out what I'm missing or misunderstanding? On the surface, it's a pretty cool idea... I'd like to use it sometime. Thanks! |

| Sildatorak03-15-07, 07:55 PM | That's my take as well. They flee with no desire to face those who defeated them in any capacity. If a PC still wants to take down some as they run, I'd let them, but it would be a waste of ammo/spells. |
| Rojar03-15-07, 09:19 PM | Thanks! yeah, I think that would work in most cases... but you know the minds of average adventurers.... they generally aren't going to let a (formerly)violent band of monsters 'disperse' into the city or countryside. heh. I'll just have to wing it if it happens... maybe treat the dispersing monsters much like turned undead or something to make them less capable fighters as they're fleeing. Thanks again! |
| Ace_of_time03-15-07, 09:31 PM | Why not just have some more Humans or goblins or what hide in the mob then when the mob breaks up they attack in force. Make it like they got the mob started so they could caught them unwear so they can attack when they were weak. |
