| Sunic_Flames01-09-08, 12:16 PM | Say Mage A has Spell Turning up, and 2 levels remain. Mage B casts an Empowered Magic Missile at him. Is the MM considered 1st level and therefore completely turned, or 3rd level and therefore only partially turned? |
| Tedronai01-09-08, 12:22 PM | Only Heighten Spell (or other effects that mimic it) actually raise the spell level. An Empowered Magic Missile is still 1st level spell. |

An Empowered Magic Missile is still 1st level spell.Agreed, since the rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#metamagicFeats) say: "Spells modified by a metamagic feat use a spell slot higher than normal. This does not change the level of the spell..." |
| Sunic_Flames01-09-08, 03:38 PM | Ok, will a targeted dispel magic have a chance to remove a spell turning, or will it just rebound? Will spell turning even reflect rays? |
| mvincent01-09-08, 03:47 PM | Ok, will a targeted dispel magic have a chance to remove a spell turning, or will it just rebound? It will rebound if you target the caster, but I believe you could instead just target the spell turning spell to remove it. Will spell turning even reflect rays?Nope. Rays aren't considered targeted spells. well, I've heard of one ray that was also targeted, so I suppose spell turning would work on that (and only that) |
| runestar01-10-08, 09:29 PM | It will rebound if you target the caster, but I believe you could instead just target the spell turning spell to remove it. If I interpret the text for dispel magic correctly, you must still target the person first before you can elect to use the "dispel specific spell" option (because the spell's entry makes no mention of "1 spell"), though the spell entry later does. So you should still not be able to remove spell turning this way.:( |

I have no personal preference in how anyone handles it, but the matter was fairly conclusively discussed by the rules lawyer heavies on the Enworld board. |
| eamon01-11-08, 10:39 AM | And, it's not very game-breaking to allow dispelling of a single spell. It actually rather encourages some flexible planning ;-). I would require a spellcraft check to identify the spell first, however, to allow it to be targeted at all, but YMMV. |

| eamon01-14-08, 04:27 AM | Which any self respecting mage succeeds on automatically. Indeed - however, I've made characters in the past which weren't so self-respecting :-) and dumped spellcraft (often due to weird builds and/org PrC's with skill-expensive entries and not having the Int to power the skill requirements), so I try not to let people get away with it without at least occasional consequences, myself. |
