str penalties [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-01-07, 11:43 AM For a change, im considering making a melee character with a low str score. This is something i havent encountered before, so....
I am sure that a negative str modifer would provide a penalty to melee attacks, but since str is factored into melee damage, does it also subtract from the damage dealt with melee weapons?

07-01-07, 07:44 PM It says you add your Strength MODIFIER, not your Strength BONUS. So as stated by other people, a Strength score lower than ten does indeed reduce your damage.
