Sundering Holly (no offense to any Hollys out there) [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-11-08, 10:30 AM As mentioned prior, Sunder, Disarm, etc the Holy Symbol or Holly/Mistletow is probably your best bet. I've seen anti-plant FX and spells kill the later too hampering a Druid in no short order.

How does sundering a sprig of Holly hamper a Druid? If you sunder his Holly, he's got two pieces of Holly! Breaking a holy symbol makes sense, making the symbol incomplete. Utterly destroying the sprig with a spell makes sense. I don't see how simply cutting or breaking a sprig of Holly or Mistletoe would be effective.

04-11-08, 11:41 AM Sunder does not break something in two. Sunder means "When an object’s hit points reach 0, it’s ruined."

I imagine that sundering a druid's holly results in unusuable holly slurry. There has not be some sort of integrity to the sprig of holly, and that integrity is what sunder attacks.

04-12-08, 04:26 AM Hampered maybe, but Druids only need their focus for spells which state they need a Divine Focus. Lots of spells don't require one.

Additionally, Holly is free to find and it is weightless. A Druid would be silly not to stuff his pockets full of the stuff any time he can.

In fact, while you're at it, make bracelets, necklaces, crowns, rings, whatever out of the plants you need.

I may be missing something as well, but to be extra sure, how about encasing your holly and mistletoe inside amber? It is pretty darn natural but it should resist any plant-destroying effects. I would certainly rule it still functions if encased in amber.

I guess you should reconsider what Sunder means to you/your group.

In fact. knowing the AI, its likely to function better afterwards.
