question regards amulet of vitality+anything and con damage.

Lets say my character has a con of 10, and the amulet for +4.

Total con is now 14.

I recieve 10 con damage. lets say it was a hard hitting poison.

is my con now 0+4=4, meaning i am alive but hurting.

or is my con 0=dead meaning i am dead with some nice loot.

Same situation. But lets say i take eleven points of con damage. is my con now -1+4=3? or is it 0+4=4? or am i dead because 0=dead.

No ideal how to handle this situation.

You do it by the ability total minus the ability damage. So you're at 14-10 = 4 CON in the 1st example and 14-11 = 3 CON in the 2nd. In other words, you apply the damage to your total score.

Now should that amulet be removed or disrupted in some way you'll be at 0 CON and dead, dead, dead.

Is it possible to create a Contingent spell so that if any ability goes to zero, you are targetted with a Heal spell? If so, which would happen first? Would you die first from zero Con, or would the spell save you?

You would die first. I guess that it is up to DM to allow "if you are targetted with a con damage spell or effect when your con is under 6" or such... Some propably wouldn't.

I first thought that I wouldn't either but then again... If that kind of not-so-common situation is what you want to have the contignency for, I would be okay wit it as there are more efficient uses...

Hmmm, well with the standard rulings that readied things take place before the triggering action is resolved, that part would work (heal you before dying).

thanks, one last one.

What if my con is now 16 with the +4 amulet. I take a total of a bajillion con damage.

is my con score now 0 as 16-(16+|x|)=a con score of 0. OR

is my con score now 4 as 16-(16+|x|)=0 then i add 4?

Frugal already answered your question. The answer doesn't change because the numbers change. You still apply the same technique. You have a 16 Con while wearing the amulet. You don't have a 12+4 Con. Your Con is 16, so perform the math on that Con. Ignore the +4 amulet unless something causes you to care about it (like antimagic or a targeted dispel magic).

The answer is the same, so the con score is still 4?

thats what i was thinking, but was not sure.

In what way does the example given: 14-11=3 indicate that 16-16=4?

Could someone aside from tos_shai_hulud answer for me? he seems to be a little bitter.

It works just like the barbarian's rage ability. The bonus to Con may be the only thing keeping him alive, and it's possible to survive with that bonus but die should it end.
