| Asilomar04-12-07, 05:43 PM | Okay, I have an Uldra and a Lizardfolk in my new party. They want bows. I can not find how a small critter can wield a longbow. How do you downsize weapons? |
| tos_shai_hulud04-12-07, 05:48 PM | Adjust the damage using this table: Weapon Sizes (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm#weaponSize) |
| Asilomar04-12-07, 06:10 PM | That helps, but how big is a Longbow for a Size Small character? What is the range penalty? Does a 'size small arrow' hurt less then a normal arrow? Now, according to the chart, a size small character does not get a 'longsword' designed for him, he simply uses a normal longsword less effectively, and must use two hands? I am sorry for my ignorance, but if this were clear to me, I would not be asking these questions here. |
| tos_shai_hulud04-12-07, 06:17 PM | I apologize. That table that I had the link for was the weapon damage table for any sized characters. In general, you can use this table for Medium and Small creatures: Manufactured Weapons (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm#tableWeapons) For the size, it weighs half as much as a medium weapon, but has the same range increment. It deals less damage--use the Dmg (S) column for a small weapon rather than the Dmg (M) column, which has medium weapon damage--and weighs less. Other than that, it is the same. If you want weapons of any other size, use the first table, plug in the damage that a medium weapon would do, then look up the damage of the size category you are looking at (1d8 longbow on that chart would deal 1d6 damage for a Small character, which is the same as listed in the Dmg (S) column of the weapon table). |
| Neutronium_Dragon04-12-07, 07:11 PM | This assumes that they're wielding a version of the weapon which is sized for them. A Small longbow is distinct from a Medium longbow. A Small longbow is fine for a Small character but will be a problem for someone of any other size, whereas a Medium longbow is fine for Medium characters and a problem for anyone else. Generally it's assumed that normal equipment can be bought easily in either Small or Medium size. Magical equipment other than armor, weapons, and shields automatically resizes to the user, so this doesn't pose a problem. Magical armor, weapons, and shields don't resize (but do reshape, so the lizardfolk could use magical full plate taken from a human, since they're both Medium humanoids), but the game does assume that the party will find both Small and Medium armor, weapons, and shields fairly frequently rather than everything being Medium, so Small characters aren't left out. |
