One of my players put 5 raks into almost everything that grants a synergy bonus and now his diplomacy has jumped up to significantly for a 2nd level character. So my question is does he get the all the synergy bonuses to diplomacy from bluff, knowlegde nobility, and whatever else grants a synergy bonus or does he only get one +2 bonus?

They should stack. Adjudicate Diplomacy intelligently and you'll be fine. It's not Dominate Person, or Charm Person, or even Command...you're just persuasive and eloquent and know what to say to make people view you a little more fondly, but there are plenty of situations where that won't matter a lick.

12-11-07, 06:11 PM Do synergy bonuses stack? Yup... or rather, "synergy bonuses" stacked in 3.0, but there are no more "synergy bonuses" is 3.5. Instead, Synergy now just gives you an unnamed bonus.

From the 3.5 FAQ:
"The text for synergy under the Diplomacy skill on page
72 of the Player’s Handbook states: “If you have 5 or more
ranks in Bluff, Knowledge (nobility and royalty), or Sense
Motive, you get a +2 bonus on Diplomacy checks.” I’m
assuming that means if a character has 5 ranks in Bluff,
Knowledge (nobility and royalty), and Sense Motive that
the character would receive only a +2 synergy bonus on
Diplomacy checks. Or would the character receive a +6
synergy bonus (+2 for each)?
The bonuses listed in the synergy section of a skill
description are unnamed and so they stack. (There’s no such
thing as a synergy bonus in the current edition of the D&D
game.) The character in your example would receive a +6
bonus on Diplomacy checks."

12-13-07, 12:15 AM I allow the stacking in my game, we have a 7th bard, his base bonus is +20 to a diplomacy check, he is obvously the party spokes person and lover, not a fighter, It also leads us to have some great "role playing"
