| ColonelPanic05-29-07, 07:55 AM | The Maneuver text reads: As part of this maneuver, you make a single melee attack. If it hits, you deal an extra d6 points of damage and your opponent must make a successful fortitude save (DC11 + your wis modifier) or suffer a 20% miss chance on all melee and ranged attacks for 1 round. A successful save negates the miss chance but not the extra damage. This maneuver is a supernatural ability. What is a 20% miss chance? * Should any attacker roll a extra d100 and miss in 01-20? * Should any attacker roll an extra d20 miss on 1-4? * Should it add +4 to AC of target? * Should it add 20% to AC of target? this is d20 System based, why not keep it d20? Why mix %-based chances. God I hate that book. So much stupid time it takes to just clarify rules. |
| Neutronium_Dragon05-29-07, 09:34 AM | The 20% miss chance works just like a miss chance due to concealment or similar effects (though it's due to hindered sight on the part of the victim rather than concealment on the part of whomever he's attacking). Concealment is described on P152-153 of the DMG, but in short, it's the first option (Roll d% and if it's 1-20, the attack misses even if it would have otherwise hit), but since miss chances are (so far) always in multiples of 5%, you can just use the 1-4 on a d20 instead. |
| ColonelPanic05-29-07, 09:59 AM | thanks. |
| Marcus Majarra05-29-07, 12:43 PM | Just so you know, the Tome of Battle didn't introduce miss chances. It's in the core rules. |
| claypigeons05-29-07, 07:12 PM | this is d20 System based, why not keep it d20? D20 system doesn't mean everything is d20... look at weapon and spell damage... Why mix %-based chances. | Neutronium_Dragon05-29-07, 10:30 PM | Whoops. > Concealment is described on P152-153 of the DMG, That should be "of the PHB". |
| pmurray@bigpond.com05-30-07, 01:39 AM | Concealment (20% miss chance) and total concealment (50% miss chance) are rolled seperately to the normal hit die. Because it's easier to handle (just a flat roll), it's often best to roll concealment first. 20% is 5 or better on a d20, 50% is 11 or better. If you fail that, then there's no point rolling the normal to-hit. The blind fighting feat allows you to roll concealment again if you missed first time. Mechanically, concealment is better than an AC bonus if your foe otherwise has a good chance of hitting you. If your foe only needs to roll a 7 and so hits you 14/20ths of the time (ie: you are toast), 50% concealment is as good as +7 armour, and 20% concealment is nearly as good as a +3. |
| Marcus Majarra05-30-07, 12:26 PM | D&D Minis uses a d20-based Concealment. It's basically an additional AC value that must be bypassed. |

So does that mean that failing to beat concealment trumps rolling a natural 20? It sounds like it does, but I want to hear it specifically (please do not flame me if this is in the FAQ). |
