There are a line of spells such as Troll Shape, Lesser Dragon Shape, and Dragon Shape. One of my players wants to use an adaptation based on CR to transform into a giant. He suggests that the weapon in hand is part of the statistics and is calculated into CR so he should have that weapon. Of course it dispears when the spell ends, but do you think this is legit? All of the shapes that you can turn into with the RAW spells don't hold weapons.

I wouldn't allow it. All of the polymorph spells are based around the ideas that either whatever you can't use melds into your form or everything you wear melds into your form.

NO! If he polymorphs into a dragon does he get spells like a Sorc? because that is calculated into the dragon's CR.

You change into the physical form of the creature. Not the physical form plus stuff in it's hands. For that matter why wouldn't you get all of the other equipment that the standard creature has? it is part of its CR.

"I'll change into a Troll, and then when I get hurt, take some of the Cure potions that it has on it (it's part of the CR, remember?)."

No way.

Tell him he should turn into a giant that does not use a weapon.

He should be allowed to pick up random rocks to hurl.
