| stone_thecrows04-05-08, 04:54 AM | From the SRD Effect and Duration of Turning: Turned undead flee from you by the best and fastest means available to them. They flee for 10 rounds (1 minute). If they cannot flee, they cower (giving any attack rolls against them a +2 bonus). If you approach within 10 feet of them, however, they overcome being turned and act normally. (You can stand within 10 feet without breaking the turning effect—you just can’t approach them.) You can attack them with ranged attacks (from at least 10 feet away), and others can attack them in any fashion, without breaking the turning effect. The group of players I play with assume that the turned undead [whether cowering or not] don't fight back in any way during the 10 rounds in which they are effected. The RAW don't support this. In fact the RAW doesn't say anything about the undead not fighting, only that you have a +2 to hit them if they are cowering [which they only do if unable to flee away from the Cleric]. Could someone please clarify this? |

A cowering character takes a -2 penalty to Armor Class and loses her Dexterity bonus (if any)." -Cowering Condition (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/conditionSummary.htm#cowering) (emphasis added). |

Thats the Cowering condition. What about if the Undead is turned but able to move more than 10 ft. away from the cleric. If a PC were to persue an undead turned creature, would the creature be able to fight back? In other words does the condition "turned" mean it can't attack back ? |

Therefore the only actions a Turned creature can take involve moving away from the character who Turned them. Since all they can do is move, they cannot fight back. |

Turned creatures have two actions: flee or cower. If they cannot flee they cower. The rules seems pretty clear that others can attack a cowering undead with impunity: "others can attack them in any fashion, without breaking the turning effect." Even the cleric can attack the undead with impunity using ranged attacks. The effect last until one of two conditions occur: 1) Ten rounds of fleeing have occurred. 2) The cleric comes within ten feet of a cowering creature. |
