Warblade condition negating [Archive] - Wizards Community

I need some help on a rules interpretation. I am DM that has a Warblade in the party. Several times now, there has been an argument to whether he can use the manuever (forgot the specific name of it) that allows him to shrug off or negate any condition, spell, or spell like ability that has a duration when he is under effects of a mind controlling spell, such as suggestion, domination, and charm person. He is argument is clear, using the description of the maneuver, but my argument is that if he does not know he is being mind controlled via say charm person, how would know to use this maneuver to shrug off the spell.

Has there been a clarification on this somewhere? Thanks for any help you can give me.

01-22-08, 04:32 PM I don't believe there has been "official" clarification, but Iron Heart Surge has been discussed quite frequently and at length.

Personally I would also say he can't use it if he is unaware of the effect, though if he trusts his friends and they are aware (Sense Motive), then they could just tell him to do it (unless he is Dominated).

01-23-08, 06:16 AM He must also be able to move freely to initiate a maneuver. Not sure if being dominated (and assuming the dominator controls your every move) allows for this.

Might be possible with charm or suggestion, depending on how it was worded. Though I would say it is a gray area. Failing your save suggests that you are not aware that you have been charmed (I can't see how you would continue to be charmed, knowing full well that you are under a magical effect).:P

01-23-08, 05:08 PM IIRC, with Dominate, you only do what you're told, so unless your new master tells you to Iron Heart Surge (which would be, mm, RETARDED), you're stuck.

I agree that unless you are, for whatever reason, aware that you've been charmed or put under suggestion, that throwing an Iron Heart Surge to try to shrug it off is pure metagaming. I think that you have to say what it is you're trying to Surge off when you do it, anyway.
