can someone interpret this spell effect for me?

if you make the save and are not entangled it says... you can move slowly if you focus your action on moving...what is the dc for moving?

the way i read the book it says it is a str or escape artist check of 10 with a 5 foot movement and an additional move of 5 feet per 5 full points over 10.

Another reads it as the initial dc check as if you were still entangled of 20 requiring a dc check of 25, to just move 5 feet...

it is a 2nd level spell and it is being made into something much more powerful...any opinion is welcomed...thanks.

Essentially, if you make the initial save when the web is initially cast, you can move 5 feet by:

1. Devoting an entire round to movement
2. Making a DC 15 strength (or escape artist) check

If you make the initial save, you can move 10 feet if you:

1. Devote an entire round to movement
2. Make a DC 20 strength (or escape artist) check

If you make the initial save, you can move 15 feet if you:

1. Devote an entire round to movement
2. Make a DC 25 strength (or escape artist) check

et cetera.

If you don't make the initial save, then you must:

1. Make a DC 20 strength
or
2. Make a DC 25 escape artist check

Once loose, then you can move as per the above examples.

PS - Thanks for letting me use my 3.0 PHB that I haven't touched in about a year.

You can add another voice to that. I also see (and used) it that way.

If the save
fails, the creature is entangled and can’t
move from its space, but can break loose by
spending 1 round and making a DC 20
Strength check or a DC 25 Escape Artist
check. Once loose (either by making the
initial Reflex save or a later Strength check
or Escape Artist check), a creature remains
entangled, but may move through the web
very slowly. Each round devoted to moving
allows the creature to make a new
Strength check or Escape Artist check. The
creature moves 5 feet for each full 5 points
by which the check result exceeds 10.

I think the issue here is that is doesn't say you make a new Dc check of 10.(And even if you did, say you rolled an eleven. Technically you would've passed the Dc, but you still can't move.) It says you move five feet for every 5 rolled above the number 10, not a Dc of 10. When it says you get to make a new Dc check it should clearly say the new DC is ten, as opposed to just saying you get to make a new Dc check, which implies to me that even though you are able to make spell motions and take limited actions, you still can't move through the web unless you make a Dc check of 20 or 25. In all honesty, I would love to be wrong, but as a wizard I will never wipe this from my spell list if those are the Dc's you have to beat.

explain what the 10 means then in the paragraph in your interpretation...and a dc check of 15 after a 20-25 check from the prior round to move 5 feet on a 2nd level spell is bad enough for most characters...in our interpretation of the rule the spell is still overpowered. your way is out of control but again i just dont and cannot see reading it the way you are saying because we are just taking words and throwing them away.

lets compare entangle a 1st level spell...str or EA check of 20...successful reflex and no extra dc and you move at half your normal speed.although the plants get a chance to retrap anyone who made the save and is still in the area.

next lets compare the spell sleet storm which is a 3rd level wizard/4th level druid....40 foot spread/20 feet high...limits half normal speed/blocks vision and reflex dc check (normal dc check) or fall down....sounds like your version of web is alot more powerful. it doesnt make sense.
