Bringslite 03-25-07, 09:50 PM	So does a Whirling Blade spell (Complete Arcane pg 129) fall under those spells that can be maximised, empowered, or enlarged?
Tichrimo 03-25-07, 10:33 PM	Maximize and empower both state they alter the variable numeric elements of the spell. Since this spell has a fixed range of 60', there is nothing variable to maximize or empower. Enlarge states it alters spells with the range of 'close', 'medium', or 'long'. Since this spell has a fixed range of 60' (with no 'close', 'medium' or 'long'), again it's disqualified.
calronmoonflower 03-25-07, 10:35 PM	No on the Maximize and Empower. it the weapon dealing the damage not the spell. If you want more damage use a larger weapon. If you have a weapon that deals slashing and (not or) burgeoning you could put Might Wallop on it. As for Enlarge it does have a range. I'm not sure it should be there, but it is listed.
Tichrimo 03-25-07, 10:44 PM	The text of the spell says '...the weapon deals damage just as if you had swung it in melee, including ang bonsuses you might have from ability scores or feats.' I cannot apply Maximize/Empower to a melee attack; I would rule you cannot apply Maximize/Empower to this special melee attack either. The text of the spell also does not include the 'close', 'medium' or 'long' descriptor in the range. The Enlarge feat states '...spells whose ranges are not close, medium, or long do not have increased ranges.' I cannot apply Enlarge to burning hands; I would rule you cannot Enlarge this spell either.
