| Averroes10-24-07, 10:35 AM | So I'm running people through a big zombie attack. The single action part made me start wondering. Zombie's get attacks AoO right? Can a zombie 5ft step and attack? As in does the Zombie get free actions as well as either a standard or move? On the web page I'm using it doesn't specify anything about free actions. Simple questions, I know. And I should know better. BUt I'd like to make sure I have all my facts in a line before I start up tonight. Thanks |
| Salla10-24-07, 11:22 AM | Yes to all. |
| TwiddleStootch10-24-07, 11:49 AM | Both are right. In general, if a monster description doesn't say it can't do a normal type of action (AoOs, 5-foot steps, free actions etc.) then it can. But don't let the players think that if the book doesn't say they can't do something, that they aways can. That is only for monsters and NPCs  |
| Krusk10-24-07, 12:57 PM | Im gonna suggest you pick up libris mortis, for the huge ammounts of templated zombies in there. very handy, if the players who see a zombie at the end of the hall is a standard zombie or if it is a fast zombie. If you only include lots of standard zombies, make sure to include LOTS, or the party will just mow them downone at a time and there wont be a challenge. |
| Averroes10-24-07, 04:09 PM | I actually have the Libris Mortis, its kind of why we're doing an undead themed campaign. However for the starter mission, which are more of an intro with a different set of characters than the ones who will be in the full campaign, they are gimpy and can barely survive two zombies, much less upgraded ones. I nearly TPK'd the party with three zombies last week. Going to see if I can finish them off tonight :D |

| Frugal10-25-07, 09:43 AM | Libris Mortis was super fun for the corpsecrafter chain of feats, I threw some zombie ogres at the party and watched the fun when they killed the first one and it blew up dealing negative energy against them (and healing the other zombies), it was early in my DMing stages so I fouled up a couple things in running that session but man that encounter was cool, nothing like throwing a little thing like that at the party that turns what they think is a pretty normal "bread and butter" encounter and all of a sudden get hit off guard with that (queue the evil laughter now). |
| Phrennzy10-25-07, 10:32 AM | Just saw the movie "Slither" last night. Very good & scary & funny & gross. The 'zombies' in the movie all share a collective consciousness - they are all linked, and are extensions of one mans's personality. I thought that could make some creepy zombies, if the BBEG could see through their eyes and speak through their voice (all at once). If one zombie sees you, they all see you. |
| 1 ton ghost10-26-07, 02:29 PM | the "hivemind" you're talking about in Slither is a terrifying concept if imported to D&D. same guy did Dawn of the Dead '04 and 300. he's gold now. you can definetly see the themes in his films now. i would consider Mobs (DMGII) for zombie hordes. individually, they are too easy to fend off and destroy, but packed together like this, and it's alot closer to the horror and numeric oppresion they get in pop culture. and yes, Libris Mortis is the $hit. get it. one of the few good supplements and now, w/ all the 4th ed fervor, the price is right (lots of sales going on). if they have that book for undead, one for abberations (lords of madness), fiendish codexes for evil outsiders (most of them), and mroe than one for dragons, why didn't they make one for constructs, 1 for giants, 1 for etc etc. |
| Sildatorak10-27-07, 11:51 AM | Also, don't forget about the partial charge option available to zombies. |
