For starters:

1. Stinger of the Wyvern Lord
Result: When used to create a Dagger of Venom this rare item permits the creator to waive the experience point costs for it's creation. Also, any venom placed within the dagger adds +2 to it's DC.
Purchase: Never, you want it, hunt it.

2. Phoenix's Tail Feather
Result: When crafting weapons with the flaming or flaming burst property the caster may waive the need for a flame blade, flamestrike, or fireball spell.

When casting raise dead, ressurection or true ressurection the Phoenix's Tail Feather may act in place of the needed diamonds. The cleric still requires the holy water however.
Purchase: Never, and keep in mind that killing for its plumage is an evil act.

Nothing to contribute (sorry.) I just wanted to subscribe to the thread because I think it would be a wonderful addition to the game. Add some "recipes" to the mix and you'll end up expanding item creation. Very cool.

3: Angel 's feather
When used to create a weapon with the Holy or Disruption special ability, an angel's feather allows the creator to waive all experience point costs to create that weapon and need not have the requisite spells on their spell lists. Such feathers are given only to proven champions of good (mostly paladins and clerics), and is a willing act of the celestial being, so a feather simply taken from a slain angel does not have this supernatural ability. As such, such a feather cannot be bought with any effect; one must recieve the feather as a token of gratitude, usually for slaying powerful demons or devils or some other similar act.

It can also be used as an additional material component to add any maetamagic feat spontaneously without change to casting time or spell level any Cure spell or spell with the Good descriptor, even ifthe caster does not have that feat.

4: Elan's Eye
This shriveled, black eye is kept in a small glass jar full of preservative fluids. Its posessor adds +1 to their psionic save DCs and +3 power points per day. Being enhancement bonuses, effects from multiple elan eyes do not stack. Hidden or not, the eye imposes a -2 circumstance penalty on Charisma based cheks when dealing with humans or elans.

Purchase--1,200 gold; most civilized lands forbid the sale of such materials, so looking on the black market may yield prices much lower or much higher, based on the local economy. Killing an elan and taking its eye that way requires only a small jar, 50 gold in preservative fluids, and a DC 20 Craft: Alchemy check. And remember, kids: Killing someone for their eye is, indeed, evil, no matter how you rationalize it to your DM.

Well...

6. Lichdust: Rare and potentially lethal to handle this ingredant when used in a necromantic spell adds +2 to the caster level. It also serves as a posion, Touch, Primary DC 18 2d4 Con dmg, Secondary DC 18 2d4 Con.

7: Starmetal: Rare to the extreme this metal can be used during the forging of a sword to grant great benifit to the wielder, increasing they're ability to hit accuratly 25%. (+5), and the sword glows when in precense of undead, acting as a disrupting, Bane (Undead) weapon. The enhancements cost nothing of the crafter.
(Thank OotS)

8: Stardust: when used in a magic missle spell as an optional componet this dust increased the damage die to a d6.

9. Frez'latz compound: a mixture of sulfur and the essence of human suffering, this mixture can increase the DC of any spell meant to solely affect mortal humanoids. It also can when used in a directly damage spell, make half the damage Vile, spells cast in such a way cost one spell slot higher then normal.

10. Stoneblood, literally the blood of an earth elemental, this optional spell componet doubles the duration or area of effect of such spells as Passwall, Meld With Stone, Shape Stone, Rock To Mud, etc...

Never, and keep in mind that killing for its plumage is an evil act.
BS. There are many reasons to kill animals (I don't care if it's technically a magical beast), and plumage, particularly of the sort grown on a Phoenix, is a perfectly acceptable one. I betcha that meat is spicy, too. Mmmm... BBQ'd Pheonix.
