Sometimes it just feels good to go out on one of those short little missions that only take a few hours (in real time, anyway) I especially like the the list given in the DMG, and at the end of the " Races of " series of books, like "A statue in the middle of town turns out to be a paladin turned to stone long ago", or "Two Goliath Barbarian tribes go to war with a human settlement in between them". A long, epic campaign could come from one ofthese although, I would like to hear from those who have played one that wasn't from the books.

2) the party uncovers a conspiracy of a corrupt general plotting a coup...

4) a long, lost artifact sword turns up at the crime scene of a murder...
5) adventurers must deliver a message to a nearby keep warning of a siege, enemy spies do not wish for the message to reach anyone else's ears...
