| MEAT09-03-06, 01:19 AM | Fairly self explanatory. Clichés are abound in role-playing games because we see concepts and wish to continue the tradition. All through-out fantasy including in the 2nd Edition Elves handbook, elves have been known as lithe, thin, slender beings who are connected with nature and the essence of life. From what I've read in fantasy books, elves eyes are suppose to look more alien (slightly too big for their head) and have dilated pupils giving them an eerie, almost "unworldly" - or connected, depending on your point of view - feel, however I have only seen correct art for elves - especially regarding their eyes - twice! What really bugs me is how they pick actors in movies (reference D&D movie and/or Lord of the Rings) that look totally human, with little to no elf qualities - no, being skinny is not the same and being tall and lanky. When elves get stronger, their muscles are suppose to become sinewy and tough like steel instead of increase in bulk. The cliché here folks is the incorrect display of elves in modern day artwork and movies (basically all media). Just annoying... |
