1001 D&D Spoonerisms [Archive] - Wizards Community

I know that many people don't like these posts, but some do. Besides, I think this idea is more fun than many of the generic, I-wanna-make-a-1001-post posts.

Have you ever had a slip of the tongue where you accidentally switched the letters or sounds from two words with each other? Well, that's called a spoonerism.

Some examples:

Low the mawn (mow the lawn)
Our Lord is a shoving leopard (Our Lord is a loving shepherd)
Slack Babbath (Black Sabbath)

Spoonerisms can be a lot of fun. I've said many spoonerisms, with a lot of the funnier ones being related to D&D. I thought I'd share them, and give everyone else a chance to share any they've said or thought up. If there's any funny story that can go along with your spoonerism, include that too!

1. Dorpal Vagger (Vorpal Dagger)

After a few consecutive slips of my tongue when reffering to my Vorpal Dagger, I decided to just name my dagger "Dorpal Vagger." One of my first D&D spoonerisms.

2. Telepate communicathically (communicate telepathically)

Said when reffering to telepathy while describing what a certain player or creature's special abilities were. Definately the longest/most complicated unintentional spoonerism I've experienced.

3. Fughman Highter (Human fighter)

and

4. Miter Funk (fighter monk)

The last two were both unintentional, though we still refer to them as "fughman highters" or "miter funks." We've also added them to the list of funny/cool/interesting character names.

That's all I've got for right now, but I'll post more if I remember any or think of some good new ones. In the meantime, post some of your own.

07-26-05, 11:40 PM we had a guy do spoonerisms at the reniassance festival I went to. He would never do Robin Hood because of Friar Tuck and he wouldn't do a tale of two cities. :D

07-27-05, 12:38 PM Spoonerisms are extremely common around our house...most of them are intentional. My father-in-law will say something correctly, then repeat it as a spoonerism. Unfortunately, some of them have stuck as a permanent way to say things. :( This house get interesting at time... :D
