16. My players turn up to my games. Is that weird enough?

18: One player in my group uses helium to "accurately reproduce his character's voice".

19: I once played a wizard with a mortal fear of falling asleep. It drove the party nutz because not only was he only able to cast about 1 or 2 spells a session, he was never asleep when they wanted to backstab him, always managed to make the most rediculous saves, and he somehow always had a magic missile on hand when the rogue tried to get sneaky on him. Eventually I managed to give him magic missile, fireball, meteor storm, and raise dead as spell-like abilities 3 times a day each :D. I forget how, though...

20: One player who used to hang around once had a Gnome wizard who memorized nothing but prestidigitation. This wasn't much of a problem, though, as he ALWAYS found something to do with them.

21: We were just starting a game and the DM basically said "anything goes" character-wise. Our local smart-***** presented to the DM a character sheet with the words 'Kolbold' and 'Pun-Pun' in big, bold letters. DM okayed it. Didn't even blink. That wasn't so much 'wierd' as it was 'mildly unnerving'.

22: I played a character whose sole purpose in life was to die in the most bizzare of ways. When he died, I would roll up a new character who was the offspring of that character whose sole goal in life was to 'carry on the family tradition', i.e., die in the most bizzare of ways. It's the human lemming!

23: Ever had someone read their players handbooks upside down? This one guy ALWAYS read his DND books upside down. He would never read them right-side up.

24: Had one guy whose bard successfully persuaded a red dragon into thinking it was a duck. He then took its hoard because ducks don't need gold. Since then his characters always had max ranks in bluff and diplomacy.

25: I'm the reason any characters based off Link are forbidden in my group :D. The 'Link Incident' is also the reason we have a house rule where any character who can successfully solo the campaign will immediately be eaten by the Tarrasque. When I mentioned wanting to make a character based off Fierce Deity Link, the DM banned him on the spot. I don't think I even finished the sentence! :weep:

in my game, we have a tavern called "the dancing badger" it is in every town. always has the same people in it,( 1/2 orc bartender, max levels and arson-proof, 2 gnomes playing poker, and a mysterious man drinking a gallon of liquor in the corner.) and we have had the same tavern in every campaign, just for fun. well a few games ago one of my long-time players thought it would be funny to say "i walk into the tavern, what do i see?"

28) I once played a 5-foot-tall Changeling Warlock. He prefered taking the shape of children (he could change his height from 4-6 feet), and would wear very fancy clothes tailored to his child-forms. At several occasions, especially during interrogations or combat, he would shift into big, hulking brutes.

My DM reminded me that my clothes don't change with me. So, I changed from a little child in a frilly dress to a huge, imposing tough...in a tiny, torn, frilly dress.

29) Aforementioned Warlock would also (in the shape of a little ) get suddenly offended at trivial and pointless things (like people mispronouncing his long, complicated name). He'd then run off for an hour or two, eldritch blast a small animal, and come back.

30) A changling character in my current campaign has multiple personalties; there are six different people in his head, his body takes the form of whoever is currently in control, and none of those people have any idea that they're actually all the same person! Each personality has a completely different alignment and class, and different arrays of ability scores.

31) The Wis 3 elven swashbuckler in that campaign who, despite working with the changling for over two years, has just now figured out that all those people are really one person.

32) Not a player, but one of our DMs plays many differnt systems (D&D, D20 Modern, D20 Future, Vampire, etc.), and will (seemingly randomly) put our current characters in a fight they can't win or escape from, then have an uber-deity reincarnate us in a different system. Our new characters don't know about their past lives, but their mission is always the same. This happens about once every six sessions or so (I find it quite annoying, but I can't deny that it's fun to make new characters a lot while still playing the same story).

33.) The sorcerer in my group INSISTS on always casting

"Summon Monster I" (in which he always summons a badger that ends up dying 5 rounds or less later)

and

"Fireball" (centered on himself)

The only reason that he is still alive is because the DM has a cleric that he plays for us. And I'm chaotic good.

34.) And our paladin has an obsession with snake scales and shiny rocks

If I were the wizard, that'd be one dead kestrel after the first incident.

34. I've heard a story about a guy who got a Dire Boar animal companion, which he used as a mount. He had mithral handlebars to put on its tusks, and named the pig Harley. It was his "hog".

35. Same player, different character, used Shocking Grasp, designating his cat familiar as the "toucher", and swung his cat, by the tail, to fling at the enemy.

40. Swallowing dice.
^Real Life
41. Collecting fingers.
42. Swallowing rocks for stone skin.
43. Holding a shirt in front of his facing yelling "I'm a cabulator!" through the tavern (No, I don't know what a cabulator is, don't play with drunks).
44. Sliding against a wall face first yelling "I'm invisible!" through town.
45. Tasting.... EVERYTHING...
46. Random people nostril picking.
47. Attempting to swallow a key, and choking to death with the response "I didn't choke when I did it at my house...." Eventually you get sick of him swallowing things.

Yeh, I play with the crazies.

I've had tons weird moments in campaigns. I'll go over a few that take the cake though.

48. A Satyr who's goal it was to impregnate every woman he met head butts a sleeping wizard, that's been after the group for the Satyr's deeds, waking him up and yells at him,"WHERE'S YOUR WIFE?!"

49. A player with an absolutely insane character defuses a situation with a powerful wizard by a surprise twnager polish -- the wizard had been asleep for 10 years and woken up by the group who had been pillaging his tower and were on his room. Since then he's been constantly asking the group to return the favor since he saved their lives with that.

50. A new player's greedy, charismatic bard puts on a bunch of rings and headbands in a powerful Necromancer's castle's powder room and gets turned into a female, gets his breasts enlarged and has his eyes changed to blue. The other players proceed to relentlessly hit on his character to the point our new player gets SO angry (talk about no sense of humor) he's shaking and red faced. We haven't seen him since. I can't blame the other players, she was HOT. Who the hell puts on rings and headbands with out IDing them anyways (he had been pocketing all kinds of things from the start of the campaign).
PrinceOfTheVoid

01-03-08, 02:27 PM
51. I had a player who, after showing us the new books he aquired, would grab a battle-axe off my wall and proceed to destroy the covers of said books, claiming that it was "his right to destroy his won property". Never did make much sense to me.
Sakon22

01-08-08, 11:01 PM
52. An overall evil party with a neutral-ish wizard that would always bail them out of trouble, normally as destructively as possible.
53. Said wizard having a magic school/library in the town where our evil characters caused the most havoc
54. Said party containing a mix of extremely odd races (an extraplanar elf, a gryphon*, and a Wemic [the wizard].) I'm fairly sure we all occasionally forgot what odd races made up our party.

*Player of this character was pretty young and our pool of players was very small, so the DM allowed it with heavy penalties.

56.) Throw said badger flail at a rogue hiding in a tree, because no one else had ranged weapons.

57) The party;
splits up,
delibertly antagonizes numerous creatures,
gets themselves caught in a series of running battles through what's (now) very hostile & completely unknown territory,

And then proceeds to whine & complain that they can't seem to find any safe areas in the dungeon so that they can sleep the night/regain spells/and level up.... Amazing.

Next game session should be very amusing.
yossarius

01-10-08, 10:03 PM
58) The party fighter split off from the rest of the group, searching for the entrance to the dungeon while drinking from his Zagyg's Flowing Flagon (did I mention this was back in the days of 1st ed?). I cut to the rest of the party for about 4 hours game time. When I came back to the fighter, he was regaining consciousness in the middle of the dungeon, with dead monsters everywhere and no treasure. The player immediately got the joke (Gasp! I had a blackout! Oh, no!) To add insult to injury, I ruled that since he couldn't remember any of the battles, he received no experience.

59) Different player of similar party fighter, when confronted with 2-3 dozen orc archers with arrows drawn, dropped his weapons and armor, did a crap flex pose and taunted them until they pin-cushioned him.

60) Party of 8 year old children ran around Waterdeep killing stray dogs for experience points. I had the town guard catch them in the act and put them all in an insane asylum.

61) Player found new and inventive ways to use his horse as a weapon against the enemy, which invariably killed the horse. He went through so many, he just started naming them, "Horsey #1", "Horsey #2", etc.

62) Player set the forest on fire in order to hide from the mind flayers' infravision; "It's camouflage!"

63) Players polymorphed NPC from male to female, impregnated her, then polymorphed her back just to see what would happen.

A party of an 2 Archivsts, a Cleric of Nerull, Cleric of neutral Deity who who all choose to spontaneously cast inflict spells. Session ended in 10min with TPK and they were ****** at me. Yes it happened. :(

My current group... drinks a case of Mountain Dew, gobbles some candy, and then proceeds to... sit fairly calmly through the session.
No random outbursts.
No jumping up and down.
No hanging from the lights.

Now when I was playing last, hehehe... I used the corpses of my foes to find any traps in the halls or rooms ahead of me by tossing them down the hall, bouncing them off the walls, et cetera. The rogue, of course, just kinda hung back and watched...
Dog_O_War

01-11-08, 12:42 PM
67: Watches the rogue pick up a magical sword, which ends up being cursed with a -1 attack and will draw inplace of any other weapon. I pick up a frostbrand. Same rogue then picks up another sword, with the same curse (in his off hand), and now is extremely angry. Curses are eventually removed, and we trade swords. Sucker*.
*I had a very unlucky habit of throwing my weapons away in the middle of combat. With this "curse", I never had to worry about it. The attack penalty didn't matter because I practically needed 20's to hit anything anyways.

68: No one player in my group will let you touch their dice if you have your own there. Lots of loud, "WTF are you doing?!"s are said when this occurs.

69: My players seemingly have no concept of a group effort. Instead I get (from all but two of them through-out my various groups) a party of soloists.

70: One player gets extremely upset when you say to him that Wookies aren't people. They aren't, they're Wookies.

71: One former player had such faith in his own completely moronic plans that when he died (every time) he'd just scratch his head and wonder what went wrong. I'm told he did this for the 10 years he'd RPed for.

72: One player, no matter how hard he tries ends up with a batman personality for every single one of his characters. It starts off slow, with slight slips here and there, but eventually he acts as if he's batman.

73: One player has all of his characters called Bruce, by the other players. This is unintentional, but playing in a game for 1 year with an 8 hour session every 6 days (average) ingrains something in certain people.

74: Every rules-critical examination we have (an hour or two per session if it crops up during one. We sit there and rag on stuff that does not make sense for the various RPG systems we play) ends with Someone (me) mocking, or someone else refering to (my) mock impression of how Kevin Siembeda must've developed the Rifts system.

75: I make characters in reverse of everyone else at the table. They start with stats, I'll start with a name. They start with a name, I'll start with stats (this habit developed due to lack of books in our early days).

Oh, yes, my weird group.

The rogue who asked if he could make a Hide check and also manage to hide the Huge greataxe he had just taken from a stunned ogre. The resounding "NO" from everyone at the table could have subbed for a Shout spell.

The half-orc barbarian who uses the halfling rogue as a spear..when she holds out her rapier just like that.

The necromancer who tossed the frozen body of a rakshasa into a volcano for still undetermined reasons; the only reason given is "I wanted to make sure he was going to stay dead".

The same necromancer, upon defeating a cleric of Ghaunadar, stripping the guy down and sending him into the Demonweb Pits...reason given was "I never liked that guy anyway, and he kept preaching about the might of the Slime Lord, so I figured I'd give him the chance to prove it".

The avariel frenzied berserker, who wears a frilly pink dress, hair bows, and wields a Huge greatsword...

The psion who wears her psicrystal on her head as jewelry

Gate under a lich straight to the Positive Energy Plane.

Garnet, the pseudodragon NPC who has almost made it to PC status by himself.

The ranger who pinned a mind flayer's tentacles to a wall using only four shots. He then proceeded to intimidate it into wetting its pants. The ranger left it there.

The lich necromancer (different from the previously mentioned one) who wants to build a floating city for the undead so they can have equal rights.

76. I played a Halfling Rogue once that started with the most strength possible, but very little hit points. Everyone kept saying that he used steroids.. and that the little hp was a side effect.

77. I once had very little confidence in a character of mine, so I named him Newb McPwned.

78. Mr. McPwned was gay, and some of the other characters (all were male) kept looking at him strangely. Once the characters were separated, and McPwned was found in a gay bar (err.. gay tavern). His god was the god of homosexuality.

79. I had a cleric once that was better at fighting than using spells... I had bad stat rolls.

80. I also had another character that only spoke Japanese and common. Unfortunately he was bad at common and I suck at Japanese. Also, most of the other characters did not even know common... we had communication problems.

81) One of my players was a Chaotic Neutral Sorcerer. He played it very chaotically, randomly doing things and not being swayed from his decision.

82) One adventure I had a dragon sitting on about 50,000 glass marbles, with the treasure in another chamber. The previously mentioned character insisted on taking every single ball instead of his share of the treasure, despite the fact that myself and every other player repeatedly told him that even if he managed to get all of them out of the dungeon he would only get about 50 gold for them. (instead of the rough 12000 gold worth of gems and items he would have gotten if he had taken his share)

ok here are a few of mine...

83)Our samurai was a gardener so he always carried ... a chia pet... (he was a very young member at the time)

84)We had a troll bard who thought he was a high elf. apparently raised by elves and never told otherwise.

85)the troll bard's name was satchmo the meastro and whenever he played him, he would jut out his lower jaw to represent tusks and talk in a very noble refined voice, which was very strange sounding due to the tusks.

86)Because he believed he was an elf he always rode a horse far to small to support his weight. he went through alot of them. every new one he got he would name it the successor of the previous one. he was on the the 14th at the start of the campaign

87)same character wore a 3 foot tall top hat

88)another character's cat race rouge (small race i created) hid in the hat often.

89)that cat always had a strange way of getting into his "top hat" lair. once he entered a secret door in the bard's boot and then the sound of an elevator going up.

90)the bard officially named the cat rouge as his familiar about five session in.

91)the cat rouge buried another character's tent in the sands of a desert at night....while the character was sleeping in it. (the victum was a dog based race)

92)one player for some time made characters who always tried to knock up local npc girls, and never succeeded. finally in my campaign he succeeded, every time he tried. he would always sneak out and leave the inn bill.

93)one character had to have a twenty foot long sword. this was a long debate over how it was impossible, largest we figured was a 10ft long sword and that was after alot of caving in on my part. he ended up not doing it because the sword wasn't 20ft long sword...(imagine walking around with a ladder on your back. ok now double the lenth...)

94)once a player critically failed a use magic device on a robe of useful items and pull off a ladder... problem was the ladder materialized through his body...

damn i could go on...

I had Twin wizards, that, much to my dismay, and the DM's delight, would randomly catch on fire.
96. (Same group as above) Upon opening a door and being attacked by hordes of rats, one of them tossed a lantern in, then both of them at the same time, cast enlarge flame, they successfully managed to knock out two dwarves, an elf, two halflings, and a half elf. The twins and the cleric were the only two left standing The Twins caught on fire. :D I still have no idea why I did that, just seemed like a good idea at the time.:P

What did happen?

Why ban him brom buying horses? The sellers like repeat customers, and overall, it makes the smelly beasts scarcer, and so drives up the price generally. Of couses, if he buys good ones, then start using the various tricks to make a horse look good, even if it's bad for the horse. After all, it's going to be dead soon anyways...

There are groups out there that dont do this?

98) One of my players managed to die in flames in several different games systems & campaigns in a row ...
I guess he was cursed, we joked that he should had taken 'dark fate' in VT:M to reflect that he allways managed to die in fire. :P
