| SOPI06-03-06, 03:23 PM | I got this idea from the recent D&D Alumni about the Player's Handbooks. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/alumni_phbii.jpg 1. The gems are worth millions of gold peices. 2. The gems are actually disguised cupcakes. Everyone wants cupcakes! 3. The gems give the power of unlimited wish spells. 4. The theives are just greedy idiots who won't ignore the gems. 5. One of the theives hopes to impress his girlfriend with it. There. I got it started, now let's continue it! |
| MADGator06-03-06, 04:08 PM | 6. Gems can be exchanged for goods and services. 7. Sweet paperweight to keep scrolls from blowing away. 8. Two words: ultimate frisbee. 9. Gnome baker offered to trade for pie & chips. 10. Not just any coaster will do for an everful mug! Not worth an extra post, so I'll stick this in here: 38. Combine them with a portable ram for one impressive codpiece. |
| TG_Ambro06-03-06, 04:32 PM | 11- they represent the hopes af everyone who has ever held a d20 in hand, and wished that maybe, just maybe they to could be as cool and powerful as thier character. 12- they're too cool for school. 13- that rogue has been trying for nearly thirty years and still has'nt got them out, so he still wants them because he's stubborn. 14- a small universe is contained inside them. 15- they are the only thing of true value in the world...even more then friendship. :D |
| metamind06-03-06, 06:59 PM | 16) There so shiney  17) They make the world go round 18) perfect for when gp just won't do 19) Everyone loves gems 20) If they don't get 'em those damn elves will. |
| buddy403106-03-06, 07:12 PM | 21: it's easyer to carry a gem worth 1 million gold then actually carrying 1 million gold 22: they look nice |
| Chaotis06-03-06, 07:20 PM | 23: Because one holds to purpose of life, and the other holds the way not to be annihilated from knowing that purpose. 24: You can trade them in for a lifetime supply of PIE! Everyone lones pie! :D 25: Inside they hold a simple math equation to figure out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop  . 26: They make the world go round. No, seriously, they manipulate earth's gravity to make it rotate and revolve around the sun :teach: . 27: Three words: Vecna's ultimate secret. 28: Merely seeing both at once kills one chosen creature of CR 20 or more. Yes, it works on the Tarrasque :mymy: . 29: They hold the secret of Pun-Pun :D . 30: Summon Chuck Norris 3/day EACH. 31: Campaign hook! Possession allows Psionics/Incarnum/Epic levels to be obtained in the game, if not already available. 32: Who WOULDN'T want 2 huge gems that people have been trying to get at for 30+ years over their fireplace? Edit: Fixed my numbering. |
| greatamericanfolkhero06-03-06, 07:47 PM | 33: They'll look nice next to the head of Venca. |
| AT-AT Assault06-03-06, 07:52 PM | 30: Summon Chuck Norris 3/day EACH. 34. Because any gem can be transformed into a diamond. True Ressurection anyone? |
| jaelis06-03-06, 09:05 PM | 35. Because that damn idol follows me wherever I go. Maybe it will get lost if I blind it. 36. The gems are worthless. But the cavity behind them holds Jimmy Hoffa's remains. 37. My wife told me to. |
| Rhomphaia06-03-06, 10:00 PM | 38. DEEE-URR! I LIEK TEH SHINY ROCKS! |
| Elvez4ever06-03-06, 10:06 PM | 38. DEEE-URR! I LIEK TEH SHINY ROCKS! That would be 39. 38 was already posted above :P |
| Thanqol06-03-06, 10:17 PM | 35. Because that damn idol follows me wherever I go. Maybe it will get lost if I blind it. 40: Because I've spent thirty years trying to get them out - if I stop now, it'll all be wasted. |
| Lord Herman06-04-06, 04:02 AM | 41. The picture was misinterpreted all along. The thief isn't stealing the gem, he's putting it in the socket to finish his giant stone golem that can shoot X-rays from its eyes. Very deadly X-rays. 42. Because it will make one heck of a wedding ring (or, if he manages to steal both gems, two hecks of wedding rings). 43. How better to **** off Asmodeus than to make yourself a BIGGER ruby rod? |
| hmmmm06-04-06, 04:38 AM | 44. To put them in a sack and beat down people. You can be the Geminator. |
| Fireclave06-04-06, 05:59 AM | 45. To focus the arcane beam generated by the BBEG's Eldritch Machine, thus allowing him to send the 13 moons crashing into Ebberron's sufface and allowing the release of all the demons out of Khyber. Thus setting into motion a chain of events that will destroy the kingdoms of Khorvaire give rise to the rebirth of the 13th dragonmarked house. The rise of the 13th house will spell the fall of the dragons. With the dragons out of the way, and Khorvaire laid to waste, there is no force capable of stoping the glorious return of the Dalkyr; they who has lay waste to this world and bring it back to the glorious chaos from which it originally sprung :evillaugh Wow, that's idea is so great that I'm gonna steal it from myself :D |
| Traevanon06-04-06, 08:54 AM | My favorite is #41 so far. #46 Forget the gems, there is a secret door behind them that the elf detected. #47 The statue is projecting a secret message for the rebellion onto the far wall, and its out of focus. |
| Andorxor06-04-06, 09:49 AM | 48. Bait for a Kendertrap |
| SOPI06-04-06, 10:45 AM | This list has grown nicely. I'll add one I thought of. It's not the best, but oh well. 49. "My great grand-pappy died stealin' those gems! I'm a-aimin' to git em for his tomb!" |
| Fargren06-04-06, 11:33 AM | 50. Uhh, shiny!!!:D 51. Gems are tasty 52.gems are hypnotic, and they make everyone want to steal them. |
| Stardrake06-04-06, 08:41 PM | 53) So you'll FINALLY have the biggest stones in the party! |
| Bruunwald06-05-06, 12:21 PM | 54. Slugworth promised an awful lot for one of those Everlasting Gobstoppers. 55. Feh! Because Lidda thinks she's soooo damned cool. 56. That crazy Archimedes needs it for another of his kooky ship-blasting contraptions. |
| Androlphas06-05-06, 12:27 PM | 57. Who said anything about taking them? The guy is obviously putting the gems back to break the curse the original thief unleashed when he removed them all those years ago. |
| Grand Theft Otto06-05-06, 12:36 PM | He's replacing them actually. I think he's the guy whose job it is to restock dungeons with treasure after adventurers clean em out. What, you thought you were the ONLY guys to go through White Plume Mountain? They've got crates of whelms and blackrazors back there. |
| Sikyanakotik06-06-06, 01:44 AM | 59. Who stuck those gems in there? It took quite some time for that guy to get the gaping iris sockets to look just right. 60. Thie... erm, "rogue" school final exam. 61. Sure, it rather obvious those things are trapped, but in Pelor's name, the guy just learned improved evasion, and he's itching to use it. 62. College prank. The Greyhawk Efreeti will be fuming when they find what happened to their mascot. 63. He's just balancing himself. He got up there to hide from Mialee after likening her face to that of a troll after an acid bath. |
| Bruunwald06-06-06, 11:50 AM | 64. "Giant Idol (TM) Crystal Soundsystem with the incredible new Pointy-Tooth-Mouth (TM) uni-speaker provides the clearest sound imaginable, twice as clear as CDs! Just let me pop in this Purple Gem recording of Devis & Gimble's Greatest Hits..." 65. "A little to the left, honey - no! MY left." "Yes, dear." "Hmmm... Now a little to the right. There! Now up a little..." "Yes, dear." "No... down just a smidge. Good! Now over to the left." "Yes, dear." "Perfect! Oh, Mother is just going to love how we've displayed the Cursed Fiery Gems of Damnable Condemnation she sent us for our anniversary!" "YES, DEAR!" |
| Platonix06-07-06, 09:47 PM | 66. Removing the gems, and then putting them back in backwards, will turn the desecrate effect currently on this temple into a consecrate effect. Won't those undead-using evil clerics who live here be surprised! |
| TrothgardtheMad06-08-06, 12:22 PM | 67. We're going to replace their ruby crystals with Folger's Crystals(TM), let's see if they can tell the difference... Trothgard the Mad |
