(I) You kill everything without understanding it, just because you do not understand the rules of the game properly.

(II) You thought that how you play is you just roll the dice and if you get 20 then you knock the table over and kill someone with it.

What's a dungeon?
Where's the dragon?
What's a fighter type?
This doesn't look like a dungeon...
(Forgetting to draw their sword.) I charge the red dragon... What happens?
"I reach into the fire... What do I feel?"

P: U Sp3ak M0stl1 in 1337.
Q: You've never played anything except fourth edition

Oh, it's only a ghost? CHARGE!!!
Ok, we killed the ghost, where's the treasure?
Wait, you mean that if we die we don't automatically get resurrected?
I look into the mirror, what do I see?
Oh, you think your dumb little walking stick will save you? Well think again. (Breaks Staff of the Magi over knee.)

X you play an evoker with banned schools transmutation en enchantment

X+ 1 you play a sorcerer in stead of a wizard 'because they can use ALL simple weapons' (a friend of mine did that when we both just started out)

X+2 you think that your character is unbeatable.

X+3 you put all your eggs in one basket. And complain when they get stepped on (like a arcane squishy without any form of defence whatsoever.)

You're a Monk and you unarmed attack a fire elemental.

...

Yeah, I did that (my first ever session).

(it's true, I counted) 43: The DM says "you find some textiles" you then proceed to ask, "can I read them?"

(This is my own true first story. After I said that I immediately regreted it; I knew my error. Everyone was only kind of chuckling right then until the DM followed up with "I don't know, do you speak cloth?"
30mins later the game was finally able to continue.)
darkneolink

11-08-07, 01:30 PM
44: you play a CN rogue who proceeds to steal everything that is not nailed to the ground
45: you play a CN fighter who proceeds to beat everything that moves (or not)
Fuzzychan

11-08-07, 02:16 PM
46: You play a LG Halfling Druid who grew up in a dwarf town, is almost completely incapable of completing sentences and has been leading around a baby brown bear for the last 4 levels AFTER killing it's parents.

This is actually a character in my current campaign. I find it funny so I let it go. This is his first time playing DnD so he still doesn't really know what he is doing, and yes the party did kill the bears parents only to then take the baby bear with them. I believe the hide armor the druid wears is made from the parents hide...

47: You wonder why it is so hard to find bear armor.
Ariakus

11-08-07, 02:31 PM
48. You think a Waterskin is a magical fire barrier and you don it and run into a fire to cross to the other side of the flames.

(This actually happened, I was witness. Our group consisted of all experienced players except one... we had been throwing alchemist fire bombs into a cavern trying to hit invisible and hiding duergar and the whole place was an inferno... so the noob [a large muscle-bound half-orc] said "I put on my Waterskin and run through the fire!" It took nearly 30 minutes to overcome the laughter once the image was in our heads.)
Fly666monkey

11-08-07, 08:35 PM
49: You're a sorcereor who knows all the "Summon Monster" spells
Nived

11-08-07, 09:26 PM
50 "What are all these plus numbers beside my base attack bonus anyway?"

3rd session playing. Last time I have another player help a new player make a character instead of doing it myself. The player didn't explain anything he just made the character for him. Strangely enough even just rolling a d20 and base attack with no Str bonus he was still kicking more ass than the rest of the party.
Rania

11-08-07, 09:53 PM
51. You ask if pants provide an armour bonus.
(Nobody did this in our game, but the DM said it: "Pants do not provide an armour bonus.")

?) You know your a n00b...if you can't figure out " the difference between a sorcerer and a wizard?"

?+1) You try to play a heavy metal song on a lute.

?+2) They say "phat loot" you ask "can I play?"

?+3) ... if you ever have said "THIS IS SPARTA!!!"...when rushing the undead... ancient red dragons... with only a loin cloth and a spear...with the rest of your party behind you.

?+4) If you have tea bagged a dead enemy (someone actually did that in my game)

If you are me (Owlperson, who played in 1974-79):

71. You play a person who resembles you.

72. You play a person who resembles your best friend.

73. You play a person who resembles your worst enemy. Ad nauseam. Your fellow players end up cutting his eyes out.

73a. You go back to playing 71 and everyone is happy and nobody kicks you out of the group until you start playing a druid who can change into an owl and then they do.

If you are Louise (my fiancee, playing 1993-94, 2001-02) -

74. You play a person who resembles your political hero.

75. You play a person who resembles your secret political hero, the one who is a big dirty secret and that you want to make love to and it's too obvious that you are playing HIM and you name him something too obvious and when he marries you he discovers the papers and he's a RED WIZARD OF THAY :weep: and the hero of the campaign setting resembles your worst enemy.

76. You play a person who resembles you and things get back to normal and Owlperson stops crying and plays himself.
Mooncalf

11-09-07, 06:18 PM
77: You think that feats like are good choices.
78: In fact, you believe you MUST take Persuasive (required) because 'my character is supposed to be fairly persuasive'.
79: You think having a Favored Enemy means you're required to attack creatures of the chosen type whenever you encounter them.

80: You have no ranks in diplomacy or bluff, and mediocre charisma, yet you insist on hogging the spotlight in every diplomatic situation (pushing the rogue who did take ranks aside) because you think you can just roleplay through it.

81: You repeatedly declare that you're casting fireball... and is repeatedly informed it's not on your spell list.
82: "What do you mean, 'preparing spells'?
83: After taking your fifth level in wizard, you inform the rest of the party that you'll take a level in fighter next, because you want to join in with the melee.

Incidentally, these are taken directly from three players in the same campaign which, amazingly, did not self-destruct. All but the last one survived, too.
Ebrion

93 - The swash you spent hours and hours making struggles to do 30 damage when the fighters in your party are doing 100s
Heroic_Ezekial

11-09-07, 11:35 PM
You decide to "pimp out" your super-awesome premade sorceress that you got at DnD gameday buying a warhorse and leather armor then charging into battle so your horse can attack then asking why you have to roll 5 D20's when you want to cast magic missile. (this actually happened)

You ask "which dice do I have to roll?" for the 1000th time, get knocked out, and wake up wondering "Hey, maybe it was the D20!"

You bug the DM about every little thing that crosses into you conscious mind.
Dog_O_War

100: You call your entire party cowards and then run away from the fight because you are on 2 HP

It happened 2 sessions ago. A CS (chaotic STUPID) halfling rogue did it. My swashbuckler got knocked down to -1 in the same battle buti didn't complain...

The DM makes you leave your lemur on the boat becuase you didn't mention that the lemur followed you off the boat, and he doesn't let you swim back out to the boat despite your high proficiency at swim. And doesn't let you even roll for it. And just says "It's gone. And you can't get it back." And then he laughs. Just to spite you. so you are continuously going to animal sellers in every single town and asking if they have Lemurs for sale. You do this for the rest of the game.

I have to say I agree. I'm not sure it's a typo in this case, but there seems to be a cult of some kind running around calling rogue's the color of rouge...I'll call them the Rouge Cult of Rogue's, they're Hide skills are low because of the deep Rouge robes they wear, but lookout for the sense of fashion...

This is 193 I believe....

193) After being told not to move, and being surrounded you say "It's ok, I'm just reaching in my jacket for a potion."

We had a player do this... He had ridiculously high rolls so he didn't manage to die earlier, but there was no coming back from this.

ranger/druid/cleric/monk d8
wizard sorcerer d4

skill points
rogue 8
ranger/bard 6
monk/druid/barbarian 4
wizard/sorcerer/paladin/ figther 2

i also memorized the rogues class skills ( i usally play one of these in some way, i know some fairly powerful not so broken builds that involve rogue as a base, a rogue 11/ assassin 9, maxed out sneak attack and stealth (11 d6, bab 14, death attack, a few spells for further aid))
Rogue 4, sorcerer 6, arcane trickster 5, assassin 5 (sneka attack+8 d6, +2 against poisons, death attack, improved uncanny dodge, cast as 11th level sorcerer, 11bab, it can hit sometimes, make darkness a spell, study the foe for 3 rounds and sneak attack them, i used human for both, started with combat reflexes and improved intiative, got weapon finese at level 3, and both these chars were hard hitters, (with single shortswords)

both were houseruled out the wazoo though, darkvision 60 feet, immune to poisons and illnesses, could not age past thier respective ages, +2 dex -2 Str ( raised ac and allowed better weapon finessing, with human base, they hardly were worth any l.a. plus 2 any ability, minus 2 to any other, the darkvision and imunities came from thier divine heritage, "cat god", for racial bonuses, i choose, listen, spot, hide and move silently, this essentially turned it into a new race with l.a. +1, la buyoff at level 5 (started 2 levels lower and caught up after 1 encounter against some boss creature of some sort, i applied sneak attack damage to magic missles from behind the creature, from 20 feet away, ranged attack rule for sneak attack is 30 feet away, the guy said it also applied to ranged spells, the arcane trickster did this, the boss had 16 hit die, 12 class levels, plus the ogres giant 4 hit die an la+5 an ogre 12th level barbarian, the guy was taking 10 damge a round from the trickster, and 20 per round from the assassin, they may have been neutral evil, but the evil only applied to mischief, trickery and other petty evils, and allowed for the assassin class, i played both at one time.)

while interesting in a certain way....

what did your post have to do with ANYTHING everyone in this thread said?

194: You are the newly appointed DM of the campaign, with your newfound power, the only thing you find to do is: lightning strikes you down, you all die (it was a jest, but heck, we were all so young!)

195: You think that dexterity applys to damage with ranged weapons, heck, strengt does!!

196: You think that base attack bonus applys to damage, heck, strenght does too!!!

Yeah..... 3 edition wasn't our strongest suit....

79: You think having a Favored Enemy means you're required to attack creatures of the chosen type whenever you encounter them.

I hate theses guys

80: You have no ranks in diplomacy or bluff, and mediocre charisma, yet you insist on hogging the spotlight in every diplomatic situation (pushing the rogue who did take ranks aside) because you think you can just roleplay through it.

And this is me but I wouldnt have to if the guy with high charisma and ranks in diplomacy had any idea on how to talk to people which brings me too

197: you walk up to a guard and say "where's the secret entrance to the kings chamber" and expect not to arouse suspicion just because you have ranks in diplomacy and gather information

I don't think we covered this one yet.

198) You ask, "So do we get to fight a dragon now?" in all seriousness, and you're 1st level.

201: You are constantly amazed that people who have played 2-3 times a month for several years can locate topics in book simply by memory. (I can get within 5 pages on PHB, PHB II, and DMG. Great party trick for the new players. ;) )

Ummm, I memorized the multiplication table by the time I was 6, is this one of the 1001 ways to tell if you're a noob in D&D?

203 : Forgetting that a fighter does not swim well in field plate mail...
204 : Running past the rogue to get to the treasure first...unfortunately, tripping the trap that sends 30d6+2(per round poison) crossbow bolts thru the air...
205 : Why does that big pile of bones have glowing red eyes?
206 : Oooo, look at all those flags! (battle standards of an orc invasion force numbering about 500......)

207: Wait, so you're telling me this doesn't involve a computer and World of Warcraft?

208: So, you guys are all only level 17? And what, you've been playing in this group for 3 years?! I'm out...

209: Wwwhat...you mean my level 1 paladin died...forever? But I worked so hard! Jeez, you're so mean!

210: NO! I won't die and give up my character! Stupid DM! He works what, only 5 hours a day on our dungeons. Pfft!

You would be admired with the amount of people who consider this "good playing".

212:You are a cleric with all your spell ready, enchanted weapons, and you can't think of a better strtegy for your turn than full defense action.
