Heh heh heh heh heh....

Oh this is gona be good, Ok, so you ever play "Call of Cthulhu" cross that and "Silent Hill" and "The Haunting" and "Resident Evil", throw in a little "Sponge Bob Squarepants" and "My Little Pony", a few Twilight Zone episodes, multiply all that by 11, and then Try to talk to Ozzy Ozborne on a bad day, and you have now got only a pin prick of an idea, of the world of Screwed you can go spinning into.... But by all means, do check to make 100% sure your DM insn't just insane-o Sadistic, and just likes to put your guys in situations where you are looking at you options and the best one at this point is "The Dragon", I mean when a Dragon is the possibility whith the Lowest percentage of Total Party Death... well, I think thats either the Worst Case possibility or being a Paladin with No Weapons or Armor, or God who likes you stuff in the Dead center of the 9,865,165th layer of the Abyss trying to get to the Escape portal on the Sky Layer right Above the Top layer which whould be Layer #1... with No Weapons or Armor... you have fun with that...

I've been at numberous gaming sessions that have become completely derailed with some tangent comment of a Monty Python skit. I've even been to a couple that became derailed with the players reciting portions from The Tick cartoon. Admittedly, I was an eager participant many times and sometimes perhaps was a little responsible for the tangent. :D

So what, this is #3, now?

Well, when playing the Basic Adventure set with your Brother, his friend that might be interested in DnD, and your sister, the following can happen

#3 while trying to get information on the adventure at a tavern, the player with Redgar (the fighter) starts prying up floorboards...in the tavern... 'looking for buried treasure'

#4 After getting subsequently thrown out of the tavern they finally get into a fight with the kobolds they're supposed to kill. After the two party members (a rogue and a cleric) of the three ended up wounded, the fighter decides it would be a good idea to cut off the head of one of the enemy and use it as a hand puppet on his way back to town

Yes, a hand puppet. Scary I know.

#5 At this point I just stop caring about the adventure and start damage control

#6 After the fighter gets jailed for scaring the populace and assault (don't ask), the rogue unsuccessfully tries to break him out of jail..and ends up in jail himself. The last party member (oh, poor cleric) decides to try and raise money for some dynamite via ...indecent proposals. After which I would have decided that the cleric would lose his spells...forever...had he tried to cast anything else for the entire session. He didn't.

#7 And so our brave cleric decides to throw the hard-earned dynamite in the rogues cell to get the fighter out, who just happens to be killing himself in prison as the 'escape plan' was being implemented.

I rule that the dynamite was not lit...not just because the cleric didn't say that he was going to light it, but because I simply want the pain in my temples to stop... :surrender

#8 Worst of all, no matter how I try to explain to the new guy that this is not what usually happens in these games, he doesn't contact me ever again.

So I learned a lesson that night...try and weed out the immature players before you play. Do this no matter how desparate you are to play.

In a game in which the DM ruled, for whatever reason, that the bead launched by the fireball spell is affected by gravity.

We have wyverns above us.
Mage casts Fireball upwards.
Bead goes up.
Bead comes down.
I do my Marvin the Martian impression. "Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!"

#11 A fifth level party fighting a terrasque. There is actually a thread somewhere asking what are some good tactics for a 5th level party vs. a terrasque.

#12 the party decided to separate in the middle of a dungeon. One decided to go up the staris to the tower, and the lone monk went down the stairs to the basement. That kinda screwed me up, since the monk was facing a vampire by himself. And it was my 2nd session as a DM.

#13 A PC died, and the player wanted to make a lizardfolk druid. The rest of the party was level 5, and i told him level 5, and he took it literally. He then added templates, and was ECL 9 while the remainder of the party was ECL 5. that was the same campaign as #12.

High-level party (18th to 22nd level). Climbing up a sheer, slippery cliff-face to reach a BBEG's stronghold on top of a mountain (no flying, since it's during a storm, and the top of the mountain is warded from teleporting or planar travel). Suddenly, three Nightcrawlers burst forth from the cliff face and attack, while six Nightwings (who can still fly due to their size) and their riders fly out from the fortress and attack the climbing characters.

The party survived. So did the BBEG, but he lost his stronghold.

#17 The Dm assures you he is runing a medieval campaign, and the first time you try to have your knight cuff a peasant for rudeness he hauls you up short with the "fact" that you are in a Democratic society (apparently the same one where the knight was born) with rules of "Justice" which include "Freedom of Speech"

Playing one on one w/ a DM: if you deviate even the slightest degree from his pre-concieved actions (actions he thinks you should take in order to solve a problem), always ends in death (no dice rolls).

By level 7-8, having one +1 weapon is usually enough. My barbarian had his +1 Sweeping Guisarme. But the poor dude got Swallowed Whole. Not a problem, he grabs the back up dagger in his boot, and begins to slash the gizzard. But the creature has DR 10/Magic. Don't ask how many time my barbarian was able to bypass said Damage Reduction with his good old dagger...

20. When three members of the party, including both spellcasters, have been turned into helpless little rag dolls by the rod of wonder.

21. When the terminally ill and hideously contagious party member streaks through the palace twice and uses himself to scrub the senatorial chambers.

...that player is no longer with us.

When your one and only spellcaster annhilates the 3rd level party with fire ball
on purpose, the DM wouldn't even let me come back as a ghost and exact my eternal revenge.

Its occured to me that i have been betrayed a lot, so one time i'm playing a skeleton fighter named Jack, (not because of the nightmare before christmas) we were going through an icy tundra an the rest of the party decided to take shelter in a small ice cave, no problem. I don't sleep and i figured hey why not snow+boredom+ insane skeleton+life in the desert= snowman. i make this awesome snowman and just my luck a white dragon is flying overhead sees my kick butt snow man and lands near by, party comes out dragon+snowman+insane skeleton= assumtions which = a dead dragon and my own brother esploding me and my snowman with some stupid evil ceric power. i liked that snowman :weep:

Jack "I serve not the living nor the dead but only the living dead"
