The title's pretty self-explanatory. All those forehead-slapping moments where you go "What the /hell/ was I thinking?"

1. The party was trudging through farm country, tracking down some kobolds. Anyway, as we're walking we come upon a bridge, which crosses over a river. I am suddenly seized with curiosity (it had been a slow night).

Me: I jump in.

DM: Um... why?

Me: I wanna see how deep it is.

DM: Okay.:looloo: Make a swim check.

Me (In plate and with a heavy shield): *headslap*

I managed to drown into negetives before the monk got me out. The worst part was that I was the cleric, so the party had to use our last healing potion to get me on my feet again.

First gaming session EVER.

We come across an orc encampment at the base of a hill. The party was hiding on the other side. Our Rogue, without telling the rest of the party, tries to sneak into the camp without alerting our presence.

I get triggerhappy and my Halfling Wizard fires her crossbow at one of the guards. I miss. Horrifically. The orcs notice us right away.

We've been gaming for over three months, and the other players STILL won't let me live it down. :D My Halfling has been quite entertaining in our party.

3. I was playing in my 3rd game, it was a solo adventure. I was playing a half-celestial fighter. I had to infiltrate a castle, so I got my grappling hook and started climbing. About halfway up, a guy looked out the window so I shot him with my crossbow. I then started looking at my gear for some reason, and it was then that I noticed the thing that would have made this all a whole lot easier.

I had wings that worked.

Hmm where to start...?
1) Attacking a level 20 Drow politician (multiclassed wierdly, cannae remember) with my level 2 Drow fighter to see what happened.... not much did, except my combustion on the spot.

2) With my reincarnated Drow fighter, trying to grapple a hydra (many, many attacks of opportunity ensued, and I was reduced to a fine mist).

3) With a lvl 6 feral gargun barbarian by the name of Thalok, trying to bash a thin piece of rock from a cave door opening to make it accomodate my size more easily, even though said door had had numerous magical traps on it in the time before it was opened. I was blasted into negative hit points by a lightning bolt and locked on that side of the door until the rogue found the opening lever.

A nice generic one: walking into treasure rooms without having searched for traps first in a campaign run by a DM who loves the bloody things...:D

4. We tied one end of a 50 ft rope around my PC's waist and the other to our rogue, who then jumped into a 40 ft deep hole.

My Fighter 1/ mage 1 Charging the BBEG cleric, getting dropped to negitaves in the first round of combat, when I specificly took spiked chain for the reach advantage as a tripper. the best armor is a 5ft square between you and your opponent...

Some "Doh!" moments i had wasn´t a true "doh!" just cause my ideas worked... but i still have a couple to tell:

- Fire-imune cleric of Nerull, with a pole axe that could charge itself with fireballs 3/d... When dungeon-crawling on some caves i decided to try a different tunel then my group. "Wizard: I´ll tag along..", "Me: I´ll charge up my weapon." I charged up with all 3 charges as i walked along... going round a corner we spot something and - being trigger happy with a big gun - i attacked.. and hit, detonating all 3 charges... on a fire giant!!!.. Only the wizard suffered, going straight to 1 hp.. Am not sure wich "Doh!" was worse, me piling up charges with the wizard by me.. or him for following so close to an evil cleric...

- Another one: I was a were-sabretooth geomancer (and it was gurps, but fantasy anyway). After being taken to the top of a fortress by an NPC for a plot-related scene and being forgotten there, I looked at a big opening that went right down to the first floor and thought "i´m a were-feline.. i´ll jump.. easy".. with me being a geomancer in a stone fortress, able to morph a strais from the place... big splat.. Luckly one friend had a ressurection scroll...

I´ve also witnessed a few as a DM/Player, by other players, the most remembered ones:
- A were tiger, in a big patch of boomshrooms... that decided to pick one and see what it tasted like.. "like brunt chicken" i´d say..

- Same weretiger.. bigger (huge) patch of boomshroom... For some odd reason decided to trow a rock.... At least it ended up killing a beholder that was "passing by" deeper down the tunnels..

- Same player of the weretiger, now as a cleric.. After a difficult fight against a BBEG i created.. he decided to finish him with Harm.. It was a lich.
Granted, he was a new gamer, learning things... mut still.....

There was another player, known to make insane things that usually lead to his (nearly) demise. Two well remembered were:
- Deciding to walk all the way out a magma-themed dungeon and back to the city while the group teleported back. He counted on a silk rope over a lava pit that.. didnt saved for long exposure.. He arrived weeks latter in a "crispy" state..
- On a wide stone bridge when 20 berzerker bugbears wielding 2 greataxes each... he decided to stay and "hold them back".. lasted 2 rounds.. And a wizard D.Door-ed his dieing body out of there...
He still remembers the pain..... merf!

Guess that´s enough.. for now... maybe i´ll recall another one latter.

just to comment on the swimming thing,.....my 5th lvl samuri in full plate jumps into a lake to help the group fight a giant squid. i have no ranks in swim....needless to say i was sorta haveing a "dooohhhh" moment...(i needed a natural 18+ to stay afloat)...roll the dice and i succeded in passing my swim check THREE times in a row. i am no longer allowed to use that dice....and the group calls me the "unsinkable samuri". well called.....1 session later he got zapped by a chain lightining for 58 dmg...wich i could handle. unfortunitly i rolled a 2 on my fort save. now i play a rouge/sorc

graveyard scene. The party is facing an evil cleric. My barbarian foolishly goes in to attack. Our Bard shots a crossbow into the fight and hits me. The cleric then has flanking and hits by one with a touch attack that kills my barbarian. After resurrection the next battle the bard shot my horse I of course bent the crossbow over the bards head.

Any session that begins with a party buying a lot of oil.

And ends with the CE rogue saying "We're winning! I light a match and drop it."

Okay so this one time i was DMing for this tiefling sorc, he got captured by some trap happy kobolds who were all speaking Infernal, the SoB just sits there...smiling...and wait for them to wrap him up in vines and basically tell him that their going to sacrifice him, hes not too strong being a sorc and not too smart either being....mildly retarded so he just sits there not trying to escape. The Kobold leader beasically says something to the effect of "I love how these stupid sacrifices cant understand what were saying before we kill them" and so i as the DM dont want to kill him but will, cause damnit im not rewarding stupidity but i say "okay im just going to count to 10 and if you dont do anything their going to kill you" so i count to like 20 in my head and well he didnt say anything didnt move, didnt ever stuggle. All i got to say is thank god i give my players one free rez each character.

From just last night:

The characters I was DMing were looking for a very sneaky pirate ship. After some unsuccessful Gathering of Information at a bar, the Rogue/Swashbuckler stands up and basically threatens the entire bar with a bloody death unless them tell him what he wants to know. He makes a fairly good Intimidate check: everybody in the bar is afraid of him, except one person who succeeded on his opposed roll.
Seeing that this person isn't afraid, the Swashbuckler moves over and basically starts harassing and threatening him to tell him what he knows.
The man attempts to leave the bar, so the entire party gangs up on him, knocking him out, and dragging hmi down into the sewers (after dragging him halfway across town). When they revive him, they attempt to pump him for information. About half an hour of real time later, they finally reach the conclusion that the guy's just an innocent ship's captain that had absolutely nothing to do with the ship they were looking for..."D'oh!"
