| JulesCARV05-04-06, 09:02 PM | I was just wondering what arguments you can't stand that come up on these boards a lot. I'll go first: 1. (in response to a proposed change to the system) "The system as it is is balanced around the current system of skills, stats, spellcasting, etc. If you make a change, it may seem innocuous, but it would alter the game and disrupt the fragile balance." 2. (in response to a proposed change to the system) "Why don't you go play a system that already uses a system that vaguely resembles what you propose (like GURPS, etc)." 3. (in response to any criticism of a class or combination being underpowered) "Well, I think that this character would be fun to play, and I don't think power is the only consideration, but then, I'm a ROLEplayer and not a ROLLplayer." 4. (in response to any exception or modification of the RAW) "Why not just give yourself pre-adjustment 18s in every stat, and then play a werebear rakshasa without any ECL adjustment, while you're at it?" (or something similar that totally ignores balance) |
| Kresalak05-04-06, 09:15 PM | 5. Undead are evil because they are an unnatural mockery of life. 6. Optimization is inherently evil, and no True Roleplayer (TM) ever does it. 7. (In response to new race) That race is worth LA +10000000 because I tallied up the bonuses it gets with SS LA rules, without bothering to even test it out on paper. 8. I found another. Good people always have to redeem everyone, and if they kill a person they are neutral, at best. How do you do the superscript thing on a forum anyway? |
| Seeker9505-04-06, 10:11 PM | 09. Class X is broken. 10. Spell Y is broken. 11. How can my vampire PC go out in daylight? 12. But darkness creates light. 13. If I have a good idea, I must first explain why the designers are stupid. 14. I want feedback, but only if you agree with me. You get a superscript by typing the letters s-u-p (without the dashes) between two brackets (the square parentheses: []) before the text you want superscripted, and place a '/' (slash) before the s-u-p (with the brackets) after the text you want superscripted. |
| Beezelbob05-04-06, 10:12 PM | Like this. :D Place "sup" in standard bbc brackets. Looks like seeker did it before me. :( |

| serow_#R05-04-06, 11:51 PM | katana threads i never understood why people like to argue about katanas... |
| geekling05-05-06, 04:06 AM | 32. Psionics is too sci-fi |
| Wolfpack05-05-06, 04:33 AM | 33. Psionics are overpowered 34. Frenzied Berserker players can't play in a group game 35. Should Keen and Improved Crit stack 36. Build X is overpowered 37. Vow of Poverty is too powerful 38. Vow of poverty doesn't allow a divine focus and the ones that I hate that have been posted already, just for emphasis: 6. Optimization is inherently evil, and no True Roleplayer (TM) ever does it. 15. Paladin Codes 19. Should Monkey Grip and Powerful Build stack? 24. Anything not Core is overpowered |
| DIESCUMDIE05-05-06, 05:04 AM | (Not all of them exactly arguements, but close enough) 34- what ever happened to ROLEplaying - far too many munchkins 35- help me force the munchkin out my group 36- improving the rules 37- commen sense says this 38- bizzare semi-believable rules bends (grappled beholder is impotent) |

| Ut-Napishtim05-05-06, 08:47 AM | 14. I want feedback, but only if you agree with me. Yeah, I'm going to have to go with this one. A lot of the same topics pop up fairly regularly, but that doesn't really bother me. It does bother me though when folks are just looking for affirmation rather than advice. You take the time to consider the matter, and then post a response which is just ignored because it's not what the dude was looking for. If you're not willing to modify your ideas or house rules based on the input of other posters, why bother posting it at all? It's just wasting my time. The rest (threads on Drow, anime, psionics, etc.) I usually just ignore for the most part because you know how it's going to end up anyway. |
| Morka05-05-06, 09:10 AM | 53) What will change/remain the same in the 4th Edition? 54) I want to play a kick-ass drow ranger using two scimitars, able to kill a basilisk, but we're starting at level 1... 55) I want to play a non-evil assassin... 56) I want to play a necromancer, but everyone else in the group is LG... (IMHO, "Necromancers" are not necessary evil; but in D&D, a necromancer not using undeads is like a scribe writing in the sand, and since using undeads is considered evil, then your PC should be evil.) |
| Tristan05-05-06, 02:20 PM | Arguments about the Knight+PHII |
| Silverthumb12805-05-06, 02:34 PM | 58) I want to make a new class instead of looking for inventive ways of playing old classes. 59) Sephiroth 60) Why would anyone want to play that? Its nothing I'd ever want to play, so everyone must hate it. 61) Sorceror sucks. 62) INA for Monks(only because they get out-of-hand. Get it? A pun)? 63) I want this, but I don't want any LA. Especially Powerful Build. 64) Why are Assassins evil? |
| CONMAN246905-05-06, 02:38 PM | One of my favorite complaints; "Why are we using the FAQ AND errata, when FAQ isn't the same as errata?" And I have to say... "Uh, I dunno!" |
| Valkaun_Dain05-05-06, 03:13 PM | Asking for ideas with a given situation and explicitly asking that the thread not devolve into criticims of said situation, inherrent violation of the rules of said situation (homebrew, houserule or otherwise) and how the DM that allows it is a tool. Don't like the question/situation? Back out of the thread and walk away. |
| Gedrin05-05-06, 04:21 PM | (67) I'm going to play a Paladin in a party of Necromancers and Clerics of Nerull... (68) I'm giong to play a Blackguard in a party of Exalted Paladins |
| hmmmm05-05-06, 04:27 PM | 69) Alignments |
| TheChilliGod05-05-06, 05:15 PM | (70): "Look, there is a "Master" in "Dungeon Master" for a reason. The DM = God, he can do whatever in the Abyss he wants, and all the other players must confirm to his rules." (71): *In response to (70)* "Majority Rules. If all the players are against the DM, then he must cave in, bend over and receive 5 spanks from each of his players." |
| greatamericanfolkhero05-05-06, 05:36 PM | (72) "So, just how many orc babies can I kill and still be a Paladin?" In my opinion, if you have to ask if an act is evil, then yes, it's evil. |
| High Octane05-05-06, 06:00 PM | 73. 3.0 is great, 3.5 sucks because..... I also would like to add another for the katana thread thing. Most of the time, everyone wants to make it a super weapon and by far the best in the game. 74. How can I make (insert completely ridiculous concept in here, i.e clouds sword, the Tetsaiga, an AK-47 in a medievel time setting, Superman as a D&D character, etc.) 75. An obvious attempt to circumvent a rule (Monkey grip and powerful build dont stack... but what about...) 76. A complaint about out of control players who should have been stopped 8 incidents ago, but the DM is too chicken to have solved it earlier. 77. #76 involving a wife, fiancee, or girlfriend. 78. My players are out of control because they executed the live psionic who was 6 levels above them and a rampaging murder fiend who killed 2 of the party in front of them rather than tie him up and bring him to the town that was only 200 miles away when they didnt have a horse. (These kinds of DMs should be glad their players arent playing females who strip at the local tavern for 5 gold.) 79. Not a thread, but the response "USE PUN-PUN!" 80. Im a first time DM and Im thinking of changing the entire system around without trying out the original first. 81. I cant change that despite my several experiences with the problem because its core! (Spiked chain) 82. The answer is so blatantly obvious that the person must be blind. "My DM is a jerk, The players are idiots, Im not having any fun, the place is located far from me and its really a waste of my time. What should I do?" Answer: STOP GOING! |
| Pandaemoni05-05-06, 06:15 PM | 83. Psionics are awesome and if you dislike them it's because you are either ignorant or stupid (or both) and you need to read the links in my sig which prove beyond all debate that psionics are awesome, beautiful and a perfect match for every game. 84. My DM gave my Paladin a choice between [Horrible Choice No.1] and [Horrible Choice No.2] then said I'd lose my paladin status if I chose wrong, which I guess I did. 85. How do I build [Insert Anime Character]? I want to role-play him, rather than think up my own idea. |
| ImmortalBlueMage05-05-06, 09:20 PM | 86. The Paladin in my group stepped on a lizard, should he lose his powers? 87. My Evil-aligned players keep killing everyone they meet, how should I stop them? 88. You know D&D was so much better 10/20/30 years ago, these days it's all nothing but feats and skills and mumbo-jumbo with no heart. I remember in my day we used to walk uphill in the snow both way just to kill a kobold and we were damn happy to do it. (note: The last one is only tiresome in the instances when the vet player in question is obnoxious, condescending, hostile, or overly-defensive. Reminiscences sans the bad attitude are usually quite fun to read.) |
| Auburn05-05-06, 11:39 PM | #89. If a paladin attacks any creaturre that isn't attacking him at that instant then he should lose his paladin status regardless of anything else that should be considered. That demon could have become good in the 10 seconds since he just burned down the orphanage! |
| JulesCARV05-06-06, 04:36 AM | 90. "Physical appearance has nothing whatsoever to do with charisma. The PHB listing of physical appearance as one of several factors contributing to charisma is in error, as is the common sense notion that being physically attractive often helps with social skills such as lying, persuasion, etc." 91. "(Person who disagrees with me) must be about 12 years old." 92. "The ends NEVER justify the means." (nothing against these boards, really: it's just a poorly-thought out truism that comes up a lot of places on the internet and in life) 93. "Stop thinking about morality using your own reasoning, and instead, apply the laws of the 11th century Holy Roman Empire (or whatever) as the standard for Good behavior." 94. "If you want to play a race outside of the PHB, it must be because you want something more powerful." (kobolds are more powerful than humans?) |
| DIESCUMDIE05-06-06, 05:29 AM | 95. I find this element extremely upsetting to my bleeding hearted liberal morality/ totally out of place conservative christian values. You must all feel incredible sensitivity to me rather than me having to deal with the real world. I'm not trying to bash christianity or the left (although they take votes away from greens) but I can only assume it is one of these two reasons that make some people post like emo-core Morrisey's. Not arguements but always seem rather creepy to me - not to mention off topic: 96. How young is too young 97. Girls play different. They are sensitive mature etc. They are flawless like elves etc. |
| Silverthumb12805-06-06, 06:01 AM | *sigh* Why is this the only thread I've visited more than 3 times in the past several months? This isn't one of the 101, I really mean it. :embarrass |
| FoamingPipeSnake05-06-06, 07:35 AM | 98) You are nothing but a stupid misogynist if you ever suggest that men are actually on average signifcantly stronger than women. In fact you are a stupid misogynist if you ever suggest ANY difference between the sexes. |
| Pandaemoni05-06-06, 10:56 AM | 94. "If you want to play a race outside of the PHB, it must be because you want something more powerful." (kobolds are more powerful than humans?) LOL, which reminds me: 99. Kobolds are not powerful enough. I want to play a kobold, but without any substantial drawbacks. |
| Otto the Bugbear05-06-06, 12:59 PM | 100. Because I've been playing for X years, my opinion holds more sway. Also true when applied to join date or post count. 101! The class represents the character's "job" in the game world. Cheers Otto :) |
| SwiftFox05-07-06, 08:59 AM | oooh, just short of the magic number... 102) threads purporting to list 101 things related to a specific topic, that then become 1001 when the magic number is reached or exceeded :D |
| Necropolitan05-07-06, 05:42 PM | Not really an Arguemnt as a common post-style, that deserves 103 for how I hate it. 103. that angsty little **** that posts in your homebrew thread whining about that one negitive that completly balances the class/Race/Item, and bemoans on how you should change it so he can munch like living hell. Then when you tell him eloquently where to stick it, he does a 'review' of your homebrew so it ends up as a "LA +2437895623895 OVERPWERED' race or other stupidly immature retaliation that starts a flamewar. |
| sneak_Blast05-07-06, 06:13 PM | 104. When we start off, the DM is prohibiting magical equipment, non-PHB races, non-Core classes, and anything non-Core must be approved by him before used. He is also only giving us 200 gold to start. Can you believe that! 200 gold! No character can survive with less than 1000. Help me! |
| Orchomenos05-09-06, 09:48 AM | 105. "I've made a lizarman half-illithid were-octopus frenzied berseker. How do I roleplay him?" |
| TheYeti177505-09-06, 10:23 AM | 88. You know D&D was so much better 10/20/30 years ago, these days it's all nothing but feats and skills and mumbo-jumbo with no heart. I remember in my day we used to walk uphill in the snow both way just to kill a kobold and we were damn happy to do it. Can actually say that one for real growing up in the mountains. My friend lived across a gully about 1/2 mile from my house, so yes I did walk up hill both ways in the snow sometimes to kill a kobold. And it was 20 or so years ago when I started. Back to topic: 106. Those that tear apart an honest question, before providing an answer. Especially happens on the dreaded 'Why' questions. Yeti |
| Balor von Balorvitch05-09-06, 12:12 PM | Arguments about the Knight+PHII Already? That book isn't even out yet! 90. "Physical appearance has nothing whatsoever to do with charisma. The PHB listing of physical appearance as one of several factors contributing to charisma is in error, as is the common sense notion that being physically attractive often helps with social skills such as lying, persuasion, etc." so half decayed lichs and drooling brain eating mind flayers get all the hot chicks with their stunning good looks lol 107: Am I good DM? Because here is my rules that are most likely changed so that everyone on these boards will agree that I am truly a good DM. 108:Casting Evil descriptors make you evil! Just like Fire descriptors light you on fire! |
| caeruleus05-09-06, 12:53 PM | 109. "People who say X are idiots, and I can make that claim without bothering to understand the context of the comment!" X can take the value of any of the numbered statements in this thread (including #109). |
| Kyuketsukiouji05-09-06, 01:13 PM | 110. The Book of Vile Darkness sucks/is stupid/is juvenile because I don't agree with the alignment rules it presents. |
