At the start of october I always get out all my horror classics. Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera, and especially Bram Stoker's Dracula, which gave me the idea for a bit of a game ;)

I'll start:
---

#1. Have a bucket of holy water poised over your door as you sleep. He comes in to drain you, SPLASH! SIZZLE! MOP UP!

#2. Urinate in their presence. They can't pass rushing water after all.

#3. Two words: Garlic aftershave

Comment on #2. You should have made it #1. :D
'Nuther comment on #2. Hope you have a really large bladder.

i have a question this is really cool btw but vamps can not come into your house without being invited.

#4 have holy bells built into your chainmail

#5 cover the area in marbles of blinking (vampires can't help counting things).

#6 (more a compliment to #2) Drink lot's of holy water so you when you urinate it can be a weapon (keep in mind it's and exotic weapon).

Um... yes they can. D&D vampires aren't barred by that silly superstition, and would laugh in your face after he broke your door down and ripped out your heart, but elsewhere that is a widely considered condition of the vampire myth, so you are technically not wrong, though you aren't right either :D go figure.

...but anyway

(7) Cast create water in their coffin and cast bless water on said created water

8) Drink some Holywater (alright lots of holy water) and tell the vampire to bite you. :schemes:

Actually vampires can't enter a private home unless invited, it's in their description in the MM.

Lock a vampire in a house of mirrors.

Where the heck did you find this? Per the SRD:

For all their power, vampires have a number of weaknesses....

They are utterly unable to enter a home or other building unless invited in by someone with the authority to do so. They may freely enter public places, since these are by definition open to all.

This requires a bit more spell-casting ability, but the effect is very...tidy...

Cast Glyph of Wardin, Greater on your resting place and then add Heal as the spell to be triggered on any unwanted trespasser. Have you ever noticed how every NPC in the world always enters combat with the party with full hitpoints? So, even if you are not assaulted by undead or Evil outsiders the Heal spell isn't going to help your opponents.

Another thing that I have found very useful:

Contingency = If (you are attacked)

#6 Drink lot's of holy water so you when you urinate it can be a weapon (keep in mind it's and exotic weapon).Nope. It is a natural weapon. Quite natural. :D

Install a Bigby's Vengeful HEPA filter in the room before you kill it with the bucket o' holy water. They you can trap his gaseous form until it's time-limit to retreat to the coffin runs out.

ALSO

Dress all in black, wear white face paint. Talk about how-much life sucks, listen to depressing noise music, hang-around people who wear rubber pants and smoke clove cigarettes. The vampire will laugh so hard at your pathetic aexistence that he'll not try to kill you, so that you can entertain it more later on.....

You know those wooden-spike-trap things that the Vietcong used? Use one of those and hope you hit him in the heart. Or, since vamps die in sunlight, have a daylight spell ready at all times.

Or, since vamps die in sunlight, have a daylight spell ready at all times.
Daylight
Evocation [Light]
Level: Brd 3, Clr 3, Drd 3, Pal 3, Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Object touched
Duration: 10 min./level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
The object touched sheds light as bright as full daylight in a 60-foot radius, and dim light for an additional 60 feet beyond that. Creatures that take penalties in bright light also take them while within the radius of this magical light. Despite its name, this spell is not the equivalent of daylight for the purposes of creatures that are damaged or destroyed by bright light.
If daylight is cast on a small object that is then placed inside or under a light- proof covering, the spell’s effects are blocked until the covering is removed.
Daylight brought into an area of magical darkness (or vice versa) is temporarily negated, so that the otherwise prevailing light conditions exist in the overlapping areas of effect.
Daylight counters or dispels any darkness spell of equal or lower level, such as darkness.

Wouldn't work, you'd need Sunbeam for that.

(7) Cast create water in their coffin and cast bless water on said created water.
Actually, vampires don't need to rest in their coffins unless they're brought to 0 hp, at least not by the core rules (which is why I use Ravenloft rules for all things undead, golem, fey and lycanthropic), although your plan is good if you can get into the vampire's sanctum before fighting it and happen to have a lot of silver nearby.

As you can see, what starts out as a humorous thread can quickly turn serious as attempt to be funny turn out to be wrong. However, attempts to correct them can also be funny. :D

Create a Magic Mouth spell that sings "Sunshine, my only sunshine...", "Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy...", "Here comes the sun..." and other such songs whenever the vampire is in the area. Eventually it will drive him so nuts he will either slip up and let you kill him or go away.

8. Live on the beach (no vampire wants to count THAT much sand).

9. Replace his/her coffin with an illusionists magic box.

10. Replace soil of homeland (in coffin) with sea salt.

11. Come to think of it. Get rid of all coffins... everywhere.

12. Nail his/her coffin shut with silver nails.

13. Bind vampire in silver chains and bury him/her alive (undead)... no it's not going to kill it. But you'll be long dead by the time it ever gets out.

14. Wear chainmail made with the alchemical silver property.

15. Scarf woven from garlic roots.

16. Live in a graveyard (consecrated ground). Just keep an eye out for ghouls.

The actual way our party in a campaign last year got rid of a whole slew of vampire spawn in a Big Bad Vamp's mansion, I figure is goofy enough for the thread...

Everyone went through the mansion with silver weapons and a large stash of empty bottles, save the kender rogue, who carried a large fireplace bellows. We "kill" the vamps, and they go into their gaseous form, which is immediately sucked into the bellows by our good friend the halfling, who desposits the vamp!gas into one of our bottles. We cork the bottle, stick it outside on a hilly spot, and wait for the sun to rise. :D

Silly question...What happens if you cast "Raise Dead" on a Vamp? Do they stay undead?
Seeker95

10-04-04, 07:51 PM
What happens if you cast "Raise Dead" on a Vamp? You die.

Casting time is one minute and range is touch. If you expect to stay that close to a vampire for that long, you're dead meat. Other than that, if you actually manage to cast the spell, you discover that you have wasted your time. Nothing happens.

Set a Spammero on them. (Bwyowowowowowowo! *Crack*!)
Equipment check:
Cloves of garlic.
Holy water ("That's just alcohol... isn't it?" "Yes... yes it is.")
Crusifix ("Dude... that's a spoon." "It's close enough.")

20 points and a cookie for whoever names the reference.

I've wanted to write something like this: a wizardly-type hero casts daylight on a vampire, the vamp screeches, cowers, and then realizes he's still existing. Grinning madly, he grabs the wizardly-type hero by the throat, spits at him, "SUNlight, not DAYlight," and proceeds to drain him.

1. treat him to some wine (made from holy water)

2. send his coffin to Davy Jones Locker

3. Use his coffin as a fire wood

4. create a gate to another plane when said vampire is sleeping in his coffin and shove him in. I think he will love the POSITIVE plane :D

... what starts out as a humorous thread can quickly turn serious as attempt to be funny turn out to be wrong. Speaking of serious notes, it is a standard action to present a holy symbol in an effort to hold a vampire at bay (MM pg. 253). Indicating that "My holy symbol is prominently displayed on my person" is not enough. Also, as I did when I GMed COR4-12: "Key to the Grave", a vampire may use his or her dominate ability on a victeim to encourage or suggest that he or she be allowed to enter a private dwelling.

I say it every time that one of these threads comes up, but.....

Decanters of endless water on geyser setting emit enough water to count as running water for the purposes of hurting vamps. Enough party members with these things will result in one soggy pile of ash in three turns.

For the holy symbol to be effective, you must channel your clerical energy through it, usually by holding it aloft and calling to your god for aid.

If this fails to impress the vampire, stab it in the eye with the thing, since 9 times out of 10, it's made of silver.

Teleport it to a small sandbar in the middle of a stream. Then sit, laugh, and throw eggs at it till sun up.

And Yak's comment sounds remarkably similar to something the characters in the Cleric Quintet used against the main-boss-vampire guy. Probably a coincidence though.

He'll just polymorph to a bat and fly away.

don't forget to surround him with a wind wall before you start pouding on him, that way he can't get away with gaseous form.

Hmm as for not being unable to enter a home without being invited..... if the battle goes bad with the vampire, just cast one of those spells that summons a home (tiny hut, mansion etc). Run inside and tell the vampire he isn't invited.
