| Mad Man02-03-05, 03:18 PM | Well i was reading the PHB (as you do) when i came past the knowledge skill and upon reading it i thought i wonder what crazy and wonderful knowledge ckill checks people can come up with :D . well i cant think of any myself right now so start posting. EDIT: okay changing title so it makes more sence to what i ment...i think 1) Knowledge: Orc behinds |
| Mootilator02-03-05, 03:28 PM | Hmmm... I suppose that you would have to make a knowledge check concerning orcish/dwarven/elven culture if you are not from that culture yourself. For instance, it might be considered impolite by some orcish clans to not force yourself to vomit after eating a meal so that you can fit more food in your stomach as it insults the cook. Depending on how indepth your roleplaying group is, it could be an important factor. Of course, that was totally fabricated, but a DM could certainly impose such checks in his campaign. |
| Keenath02-03-05, 03:56 PM | Well, *particular* cultural knowledge as skills would be very weak as an ability. In D&D, there are two or three skills of note: Knowledge(Local) covers a lot of this, including the laws and customs of various groups of humanoids like orcs, elves, and dwarves. The customs of monstrous humanoids, fey, giants, and so on are covered by Nature (they tend to have very few real customs). If there's a fey court, you might have that covered by another skill, or just use more difficult Local checks. The last is Geography, which tends more towards knowledge of who lives where and what the land is like in various regions. Knowledge does tend to overlap, as it does in real life. A lot of checks could be covered from different directions -- for instance, knowing details about an ongoing feud between two royal families could be Nobility, History, Local, or perhaps even Geography (if the dispute involves ownership of important land features, for instance -- wars over control of a river are common in our own history). |

Druid: "I dunno, but these anenomies are severely underfed!" Fighter: "Why do we drag you along with us?" 8. Knowlege(Pants) Fighter: "We'll need to get some disguises..." Bard: "Try these, darling!
