It's surprisingly common for posters to propose "rules interpretations" or "houserules" that are actually explicitly covered by the rules. This is a collection of them.

We're looking for situations where posters say: "It's not unreasonable to play that ..." or "in my games, I rule that ..." where "..." is, apparently unbeknowst to the poster, already explicitly in the ruleset.

Please include page reference for actual rule. Please only include stuff where the actual rule clearly and unambiguously covers the houserule provided.

Examples:

* Drawing and sheathing wands as if they were weapons: see PH pg 142
* +4/-4 size mods on intimidate: see PH pg 76

i give "awesome bonuses" to checks for players who attempt something reall cool

i also give a negative awesome penalty for things that are insane

you only get the lowest "awesome bonus", not the highest

If you roll a 1 on a save you autofail. (to be fair, you could argue that this is a houserule since rolling a 20 on a save wasn't not an autosave. The one was still an autofail though)

Same here. Usually between +2 and +6.

It encourages the players to be more daring.

"So, you really want to swing from the chandleer, mid-air grapple the flying deamon, ride it to the ground and impale it on the spear held by the big statue in the middle of the room? I think that we can work something out..."

Perhaps you don't understand the point of the thread... It is a list of rules that people think are their own houserules, but in reality are actual rules according to published WotC books.
