Stamitos the assassin

My party first met him (hired as body guards) while on patrol around a nobleman's mansion, while the party rogue was disguised as the nobleman out for a walk at night like he usually did, the assassination attempt was made...only to fail due to the displacment spell cast by our party mage....after this the assassin was forced to retreat due to the obvious threat of being outnumbered 40 to one if the guards were called into the situation....after this he encountered our party numerous times trying to restore his reputation sometimes one at a time, sometimes in our full group

finally after retreating several times because of the risk of his personal health:P

Stamitos was hired by the B.B.E.G. and fought to the death this time....he was killed barely by the party fighter (everyone one else got ****ed) upon his death he gave info on the wherabouts of the B.B.E.G.

then a small legion of blackguards was swarming the area sent by the BBEG incase Stamitos failed

Stamitos was really not a bad guy he just thought changing the world for the better was beyond someone like him....but as he fought our party members, he realized that they might be able to....so we learned also that he planned to blow up the entire watchtower if by chance he was defeated again...but as his final act he told our fighter of a secret underground escape tunnel and this phrase "wish me well in hell...now get out of here". after we got out (dragged by the fighter on a rug...half-orc go figure) the entire complex exploded taking the black guards and all.....after we were brought back to life....we were kinda sad to see him go:weep:

RIP Stamitos.....you were the best....

I've mentioned him on other threads, but will again here since I think he fits what the OP was looking to bring out.

The Old Man -- if he has another name, no character has managed to get it out of him (or, more importantly, no player has thought of a way clear enough to ask to make me bother to stick one on him).

The is the standard NPC I pull out when a group of mostly inexperienced players tries to have a go with a party of low-level characters. I usually bring him in to fill some of the fire-power gaps and teach some lessons along the way.

Basically, I stylized him MANY years ago after the character of the old guy with the mule on "Grizzly Adams" -- and when the same actor began the role of "Uncle Jessie" on the Dukes of Hazzard, well, he just added another dimension to the Old Man.

He is generally thought of as a human of later years with shaggy white hair and long beard. He is stocky at best and going south from there, if you catch my (mid)drift. But, he's a lot tougher than most give him credit for. He is a warrior with some tracking and healing abilities, but other than that, he has never had his stats officially put down anywhere (hey, it's MY world, right?). He generally uses a battleaxe as his primary weapon, with a throwing hammer as his off-hand, which he can also throw fairly well.

As I said, he is generally a "mentor" type character, so he has some loose attachment to the adventure the party has found themselves in. Such as being the distant counsin to the girl that was kidnapped, or maybe served with the victim of some crime -- the time thing that gives him a good reason to be there without a whole lot of detail of why. This also allows him to be carried over to another adventure if I think the group would still benefit from him being around.

His main role is to give some fire-power, but no "real" help where it matters. He makes no decisions and offers no straight guideance, merely grumbling comments like how back in his day they would set a guard (and he NEVER stands guard duty unless everyone else is incapable), or if they are getting a little too blaise about handling other NPCs, he'll throw in "I don't like the set of his eyes -- looks like his granny knew an orc a little too well" -- but he might say this just as easily about the guy they need info from or the bartender that has nothing at all to do with the plot as to one of the BBEG's henchmen -- the idea is just to keep them thinking. If they ask him to help search for a track, he will, but he never offers it as a possibility until someone else decides it is a good idea. I really have to keep my over-generous player side in check here, since it would be so easy to slip in a hint that will get them going where I think they should. In fact, I can only ever remember one time where HE was the one to bash the door -- and that was only because the group was becoming paranoid about traps (sure, ya fry ONE ROGUE! Not like they couldn't revive him!) -- so, when everyone else kept refusing to open the door (which was NOT trapped, by the way) for 5 solid minutes of real time, both he and I had had enough -- so he had to grab the Proudfoot by the collar and seat of his pants while yelling "Come on, chicken -- Now THIS is how we used to kick in a door back in the old days" and made a hobbit sized opening in the door. Hey, I didn't deduct any hitpoints from the halfling -- just considered it a "lessons learned".

Anyway, this is MY contribution -- 99 more to go!

Meepo : any time I have a kobold look at the party and not attack them and just wander off they always go 'Meepo! Is that you not wait come back.'. Usually this happens in parties that have never known about the citadel.

Lady Yamilla:

She's the owner of the high class brothel: Yamilla's oasis of pleasure. A beautiful young woman with a soft perfectly tanned skin and heavy dark hair falling on her shoulders. She's wearing a revealing, although non provocative, robe wanting you "to see more of her"

She has a heartbreaking smile and a smooth voice that make everyone stop talking. As weird as it might seem, she loves her job and wouldn't dream of another life. She's particulary fond of the PCs and is always happy to have special low cost "session" with them.

Of course, Yamilla is more than meets the eye. She's an enchantress and can magically charm people only with her kiss. She's using her establishment to charm several VIP and doesn't hesitate to pull some strings when she needs a special favor.

What the PCs don't know is that they are already charmed by her and without knowing it, they might help her to gain more power and influence.

Seven-Sword Master, also known as Vargas. He's a swordsman and mercenary that, in my steampunk campaign, the party fought against. The party defeated him and his small mercenary troupe, and he honourably surrendered, and they let him go.

He was built around two-weapon fighting, and was three levels higher than the party was (14, compared to their 11) when they fought, so he was quite formidable -- but the party played it smart and took out his weaker companions first so they could focus on bringing him down.

Anyway, he had seven longswords, each with a different enchantment. He was one of the only NPCs that the party was scared of.

He reappeared later in the campaign, but with two extra arms. The party was incredibly relieved when he declared his intent to join their cause (saving a kingdom) after approaching.

He's been a recurring character in various games set in that world ever since.

In my adventures i keep haveing a gobling kicking one of my players in the crunch.....:dancin:
Escef

12-04-06, 02:11 PM
The NPC from whom I took my screen name.

Escef, MercenaryMage. Prideful, arrogant, and considered one of the most powerful mages available for hire, Escef has proven himself on countless battlefeilds. There are some people Escef won't work for due to his morals, and has once changed sides (and the tide of battle) after witnessing his employer's troops raze a village. A bit of a maverick, Escef's main hobby is seeking ancient magical treasures, which he has been known to recruit adventurers and other mercenary mages to help find.

Escef could be encountered in many different ways. He could recruit them for a dungeon crawl to find ancient magical items, they could encounter him on the feild (as a friend or foe, or even both in the same engagement if Escef sees 'his side' perform atrocities), as a player in someone's military/political schemes, or even an aged Escef could be a valuable contact.

Escef has dark eyes, and long dark hair, usually dressing in blue or green silk shirts, with gloves, vest, pants, and boots all black. Escef is often armed with a bastard sword (having multi-classed into fighter early in his careeer) and a small selection of wands, and always has at least one escape planned (Expeditious Retreat, hired men at arms, Teleport, etc.).

Chiana Burganoise

This forty-something enchantress was one a wizardess under the dread pirate Bloody Jack Dascombe (of DCC fame) until she lost her sight during a boarding attack at sea. She lives alone in a sea-side port, dealing in odd curiosities and selling rumors and information. If pressed, she can call for assistance from the local pirate gangs, who williningly help her since she often passes on choice tidbits about merchant vessels passing through the area.

She can no longer cast spells (she can't read her spellbook and braille spellbooks aren't available), but is very adept at giving advice, and seems to have the ability to "read" people that are near to her. She also seems to have uncanny insight into the future, but is very cryptic about information she passes on about what she knows of the future. Those she takes a liking to she will allow to copy spells out of her own spellbook (she has has up to 4th level spells - mostly necromancy, enchantment and transmutation spells) for a reduced fee (about 1/2 normal).

Chiana tends to dress in white gowns with frilly lace and small splash of color. She prefers to go about shoeless; with her sight gone she can find her way around easily by "feeling" the ground underneath her feet and sensing the presence of nearby objects (usually when within a foot of a solid item). She no longer wears jewelry and only light make-up. At the same time, she enjoys combing and styling her hair, and enjoys getting remarks on how well groomed she keeps it. She is very conciensus about her loss of sight and wears a strip of heavy guaze over her eyes. When expecting a visitor that she enjoys talking to, she often replaces the guaze with an eyeless carnival mask or a bejeweled veil.

Bubba... He is usually the bartender that is much higher in level then the party, but wont fight them (aside from knocking them out). He was created as payback to my little brother who used to call me Bubba when he was little.

Never mess with bubba...

I've given him different names sometimes, just so the players dont know it is him, but he always shows up in one form or another.

Rook of Nowhere is a reoccuring human (I think) NPC that I created. He wears a dark brown cloak with a hood, wields a sword, is an incredible fighter, and never removes his black mask. When he moves his face his mask changes shape to mimic what his face would be doing underneath his mask. Rook has no memories of his childhood and claims his father Rarend once tried to conqure the world. He first appeared in a quest involving a strange fog and a cabal of frost giants and was a guide for the PCs. His second appearance was as the faceless engineer who built automatons for Demopact. He appeared a third time as a leader of an expeditionary force that ransacked Stygia (he was a bad guy in that quest). Rook appeared a fifth time as the cleric which ressurected a dead PC and appeared a sixth time a leader of a vigilante organization.

Who is Rook? Why does he never take off his mask? why can he not recall his childhood? Even I don't know the answers:shifty:

Picole Montis, Traveling Artist

This wizard/artificer of indeterminate level (always 2 levels above the PCs)'s goal is to fill his Gallery of Art demiplane, connected to a small hand mirror, and after filling it, or while doing so, find the Mageslayer that has stolen his Dagger of Opening, the only was to actually enter the blasted plane.

For contributions to his gallery (paintings, sculptures, poems, literature, or even directions to things that can lead him to additions), he will provide aid, or, in some cases, give directions to some places he has painted, important places. can also create magic items.
