| Ashok_Lal10-19-06, 12:40 AM | My 12th level Wizard just got a monster haul in the last adventure. So now she has 100,000gp to spend. She realy doesn't realy own much just a few minor wands, robe of armour +3, non-magic staff, headband of interlect +6. boot of leaping & striding some healing potions & thats about it. most of her money was spent on spells. We are restricted to the DMG  |
| fullmetal8011010-19-06, 12:43 AM | Ummmm arnt' there rings for 100k each of elemental control, those are pretty fun. |
| Krusk10-19-06, 01:17 AM | one ring of protectiong +5 50k one amulet nat armor +5 50k +10 ac is always nice ring protection is a deflectioon bonus, and amulet is a nat armor so they should both stack with your current armor. or maybe the ring, and amulet of con boost +6 and save some gold. +3 hp/lvl at level 12 is nice. |
| Titan W10-19-06, 01:17 AM | I think you could get about every spell in the PHB for about 145k so you can buy what you don't have so far and then splurge on some 7th 8th anf 9th level ones so that you have a few spare once you can actually cast them. Pearls of power are also relatively cheep andvery powerful indeed, consider those very highly on the list. (also a mithril chain shirt +5 is good for +9 AC and minimum ASF I think there's even an enchantment that makes it 0, you can also add the SR enchantment or fortification of some degree and still be under 100k (especially if you sell your robe). |
| ZeronHitaro10-19-06, 01:17 AM | Save your money. Get the feat Craft Construct. Build a Shield Guardian from the MM. |
| Ashok_Lal10-19-06, 01:18 AM | Not that i want to spend it all at once. Worth considering though |
| Ashok_Lal10-19-06, 01:25 AM | one ring of protectiong +5 50k one amulet nat armor +5 50k +10 ac is always nice ring protection is a deflectioon bonus, and amulet is a nat armor so they should both stack with your current armor. or maybe the ring, and amulet of con boost +6 and save some gold. +3 hp/lvl at level 12 is nice. She likes it. She does spend a lot of her time Polymorphed into a creature that has high nat armour & she has robes of armour +3 i asume these wont stack. Robes of armour. Can you put armour special abilities on robes?? How much would a Wizards tower cost? |
| sneak_Blast10-19-06, 01:27 AM | Scrolls. Scrolls, scrolls, and MORE scrolls. You never know when that spell you JUST might need is needed. Ring of Wizardry (I-IV) Get four more spells of level 1-4. Very nice, but they tend to be a tad expensive. SR SR is always nice to have around. Can really save your butt in a tough spot. Also a tad expensive though. Its 10k for every point of SR over 12 that you have. Minimum, SR 13. Saves Can you say "Cloak of Resistance"? Get those saves up. Your main stat, INT, doesn't give to any saves, and you only have a good will save, so your saves will probably not be that great. AND, saves are pretty cheap. Formula for saves is: Bonus^2 * 1k. Not bad, especially compared to SR and Ring of Wiz. Anyway, thats all I can think of off the top of my head, so best of luck! Hope this helps. :) |
| runestar10-19-06, 01:28 AM | Because magic item costs tend to scale exponentially, you are usually better off investing in multiple weaker items, rather than burning it all on 1 or 2 uber items. Perhaps upgrade your robe of armour to the next step. Get rings of prot/amulet of armour +2 or +3. Buy a mithril buckler and enchant it with some nice armour enhancements? If you have item creation feats, you can consider crafting items instead, expending xp instead of gold. |
| sneak_Blast10-19-06, 01:37 AM | Ah yes. A few more categories... AC Twilight Mithral Chain Shirt: ~2k, +4 Bonus to AC. 0% Arcane Failure Chance, (Twilight, +1 Bonus, -10% Arcane Failure Chance, PHBII) Mithral Buckler +2: ~5k Ring of Deflection +2: ~8k etc. AC is quite cheap. If you end up spending too much on it, you are probably doing something wrong. Just get a whole bunch of little things. They will add up. Constitution HEALTH!!! When you have -10 health, you die! If you have more health, it takes longer to get to that point! 36k for +6 Constitution is very nice. Thats +3 HP per level. Sweet deal. |
| Giant Turtle10-19-06, 08:32 AM | Every spell in the PHB costs a total of 165,550 to be specific. Assuming that you pay 100gp per page, 1 page per spell level. But to answer the question of whats good to buy for a wizard, spells is the right answer. Spells can replace EVERYTHING else in the book. Who needs AC when you're invisible/ethereal/flying? Weapons are for the tanks. Some other trinkets are nice, like Rings of Wizardry, Ring of Sustenance, things like that. It might be a good idea to get a few healing potions, but other then that, spells. |
| cog_and_taz10-19-06, 09:35 AM | Save up, buy an apparatus of kwalish, permanency enlarge it, put scorching ray wands in the eyes, and give it wings. That'll burn your money, but it'll be sooooo worth it.:D |
| NoldorForce10-19-06, 11:02 AM | A Candle of Invocation. Seriously, however... -Boost the bonus on the robes. -Get something that increases Con. -Get an enchanted mithral masterwork buckler. Arcane spell failure, you say? Nonproficiency penalty? Neither exist for this item. -Can't think of much else... |
| ZeronHitaro10-19-06, 11:35 AM | Am I missing something here? People are suggesting items to boost Con for a measily increase of around +3 HP. My question is this: What's better in the long run? A. +3 HP per level B. A golem (with the ammount of gold the caster has) that can easily exceed 170 HP and also soaks up 50% of any damage dealt to the caster as long as he's within 100 ft? +3 HP per level vs. Constant DR Half/- As for the math. Amulet Cost: 20K GP Materials: 5K GP HD Increase: 11 x 5K per hit die = 55K Size Increase: (due to advancing enough HD)= 20K Total Cost= 100K on the dime. What do you get for 100K? A Huge 26d10+?? Shield Guardian who can soak up half your damage, find you anywhere as long as A. You're on the same plane and B. You have the amulet, and finally, it has Fast Healing 5. Not to mention.... Spell Storing (Sp) A shield guardian can store one spell of 4th level or lower that is cast into it by another creature. It "casts" this spell when commanded to do so or when a predefined situation arises. Once this spell is used, the shield guardian can store another spell (or the same spell again). Source: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/shieldGuardian.htm |
| Krusk10-19-06, 03:30 PM | shield gaurdian is nice, but then you have to worry about it getting killed. in or out of combat, i know plenty of Dm's love to destroy/target constructs or followers the Pc's gain. where the dm would never think of destroying your amulet that you got to boost your worst quality. plus the golem cant go everywhere. so you have to stay nearish to it. -also both of those rings stack with the robe, but the nat armor wont stack with your polymorphed forms. |
| ZeronHitaro10-19-06, 03:33 PM | True, and with that Huge size he's not getting into any caves or dungeons anytime soon. >.<; |
| Sarig the Genie10-19-06, 03:51 PM | Get a flying carpet. All the cool people are doing it. |
| Ringmereth10-19-06, 04:14 PM | If it were me, I'd buy a +5 Robe of Protection, a few cheap protective items, an Orange Ioun Stone, and as many scrolls as you can afford. You might also want to think about putting some cash into a metamagic rod. Being able to Empower your disintegrate and enerviation spells or Quicken an invisibility or dispel magic is always a good option to have. Also, if you don't have a portable hole, bag of holding, or Heward's Handy Haversack, it's a good time to get one. If you're willing to save it a bit longer, it could also go a long way towards buying you a Tome of Clear Thought +4 or +5. Boosting your Int bonus by 2 or 3 is never a bad thing. |

You need to remember to remove the 0 level spells from the cost, as well as 40 spells for the given ones per level, and also the bonus 1st level spells for INT bonus upon character creation. It adds up to about a 20k discount when you figure 4 9th (3,600) 4 8th (3,200) 4 7th (2,800) is already 8,600 off, continuing the pattern it adds up (2,400 2,000 1,600 1,200 800 400 + (4+INT Bonus)* 100 = 8800+(1 to 4) so total is 17,400+(100 to 400) GP in free spells up to 17,800 (Meaning that it's total cost of 148,550 or about 145k (3.55k off but a good ballpark) assuming that you have already bought about 10k in spells I recommend getting as many as you gain due to the above reasons. which means you have about 138k to buy so you could just skim off a bunch of the lower level spells and some of the weaker high level ones and still have a spellbook that most wizards would kill for. Not to mention that with every spell you can craft every item in the game and more. |
| Dragonsblood10-19-06, 05:06 PM | Here's the Magic Mart for your shopping spree: http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/magicItems.htm I've always been a huge fan of the Robe of the Archmagi; +5 AC, +4 saves, SR 18, and +2 caster level for overcoming SR...yummy A Blessed Book is a GREAT investment and you can sell your old book for ~5k, or keep it in a safe place for emergencies. If you like ranged touch spells, you can get Gloves of Dex. Pearls of Power and/or Ring of Wizardry to cast more spells. Handy Haversack to carry more stuff. A Minor Cloak of Displacement will protect you better than any AC boosting item, including making you virtually immune to sneak attacks. |
| ahiman10-19-06, 07:30 PM | While what everyone has said is very useful and what not why not do what some one suggested on the eberron boards... Throw the biggest party ever. Magic entertainment, food, drink, monsters, side shows, games and 10,000 people. Best party ever. Give people some time so that people from everywhere can come. That way you are a nice person and also every one will love you. Can you say discount? Yeah just a thought. |
| Krusk10-19-06, 11:01 PM | Just thought about the golem. there has to be some way to stick it in a portable hole/bag of holding and store him in there, still allowing the dr half/- idea. might be worth looking into. no idea on its weight/what those items can hold or if they are the same plane though |
| Elrinade10-19-06, 11:08 PM | Broom of Flying......no question about it. Oh and maybe buy some spells to increase you spellbook :) |
| sicsemperjohn10-20-06, 12:18 AM | or if they are the same plane though Nope. |

| cog_and_taz10-20-06, 02:17 AM | You misunderstand, if corridors are too big, use the aforementioned wands to...widen them:P . Oh, and how about an eternal wand of Small Nuclear Device instead? |
| epifreak10-20-06, 02:26 AM | So, I'm surprised that it went even 20 posts before someone mentioned it, so I'm going to echo Dragonsblood on this one. BOCCOB'S BLESSED BOOK Seriously, grab like 4 of them and begin scribing like crazy. It works out cheaper in the end than 100g/page and provides plenty of pages. |

I wasn't saying you were wrong, I just happened to know the answer :D |
