| techhunter06-18-07, 03:59 PM | I'm trying find info on a artical about the 1st edition ranger. I saw it long ago either Dragon or Polyhedron. Can anyone tell me where I can it? |
| caeruleus06-18-07, 04:52 PM | The 1st edition ranger was in the 1st edition Player's Handbook. If you mean the ranger for the original D&D game as it appeared for the first time ever, that was in an issue of The Strategic Review (the precursor to Dragon). I don't recall which issue, but I believe there were only seven of them. They're available in the Dragon Magazine Archive CDs, if you can find a copy of that. |
| Potato_Dragon06-18-07, 09:11 PM | I'm not sure about the 1st edition Ranger, all I remember is that it had 2d8 hp at 1st level (!), but here's a good approximation of the 2nd edition one: Advance to 3rd level as a ranger (taking the 2-weapon fighting ability), then advance as a fighter for the next 4 levels, then advance levels 8-15 as a druid, and finally advance as a fighter for the remaining levels. No taking weapon mastery, and max out survival, hide, and move silently even when cross-class. Not perfect, but close enough. |

| cwslyclgh06-19-07, 02:50 PM | It is unlikely, but is not impossible that it may be found, (strategic review is old enough that the author may have retained copyright, in which case he could have posted to the internet if he wanted to) you would have better luck finding somebody who could point you in the right direction on someplace like the Dragonsfoot message boards: DRAGONSFOOT (http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/) |

They give you tips on having certain characters by taking levels at certain levels and feats and such, possibly Ranger Handbook 2. |
| caeruleus06-19-07, 07:18 PM | I was curious, so I looked, and there is indeed a write-up of the original ranger at Dragonsfoot. http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1503 The tables aren't aligned properly, but the information is all there. |
