Well I've been trying to work with a friend of mine on a campaign, and I think he's pushing his ideas on me more that letting me put input on the world. We had this idea where we would both be DM's and would switch off. But he tends to stick WAY more to the book, than letting his mind run things. As for me, I look at the books for ideas, and basic rules, and run the rest as I see fit. On our first "try out" mission we both DM'd. He went first, and I got to say it was boring as hell. Way to much dice rolling, not enough action, no depth to the story he got off line. We didn't even get to finish my DM time, and he kept telling me what to do. My Ideas are way far off from what he wants. I want to bring people into a world where they fell like they and really doing something. I want to bring fear, hate, and sadness into my adventures, as well as some more positive emotions. I'm thinking of D&D as a different life, while my friend thinks of it as some small little semi fun thing before he plays Gears of War. I just want people to have fun in my world. Not think of it as a annoying errand with dice. Do you kind of get it? If not I'll try to explain a little better...

I think you either find a comprimise or DM seperate games. Sounds like you've got creative mind vs logical mind which never meshes well.

Radicaly different styles that just will not mesh. Run seperate games. And it even sounds like you are not going to play very much in each others games either. Just the way it goes sometimes.

He can assist you with keeping paperwork straight, but other than that he should not officially be labeled a DM. If he is a player he should not even be assisting you with paperwork.

Remember that when you try to have two DMs for a game that was meant to have one DM you are going to have a disaster. You can have him be an assistant, to help with NPC management(IF he is NOT a player), but he should not be overruling you and vice versa. Give him certain duties if you need help but always do the job that you have chosen to take on(i.e. being the DM).

If you two are bumping heads split and go run your own separate games like the previous poster said.

Hmmmm, I think that I'll just make a new campaign... and tell him we can switch off like every week or something. Yeah! Like I'll DM one week with my campaign, then the next he can do his. I think that's better than always fighting with logic over imagination. Though there is the problem of the other PC's saying that they don't like me as a DM or Peter as DM etc. I guess I'll just figure THAT part out when it comes...

Excellent idea. That way you both don't horn in on the other action as DM. Switching up campaigns is a great way to run games for two people that want to DM.
