Hi not sure this is the right place but while a friend and i have both been miniature players for a very long time, neither of us has ever played an RPG. With a Long flight to Japan coming next week we wondered if there are any good 2 player adventures we could have a go at on the plane ( 1 dm 1 player). Being trapped for 12hrs seemed a good time to start learning.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The Challenge of Champions series of adventures (there have been five of them) in Dungeon Magazine are easily usable by just two people, although some of the challenges are easier to fail with fewer resources.

Thanks for the reply,

Does anyone have any advise as to materials we could use, i was thinking that one of the adventures from a recent Dungeon magazinemight be good as they supply maps for download. I take it that in order to balance an adventure i should only use monsters with a challenge rating of 1/4 or lower since there is only 1 player. Please help

or you can do what i do
i dont like straight dming so what you can do is you can be the dm and a charecter but you cant do anything that would affect the campain
E.X you can fight but say your in a dark area with guys lurking, you know there there cause your the dm but since he doesnt you cant cast a light spell for example, Basicly dont do anything that would screw with the game

Well for info about solo campaigns follow the thread in my signature, that will answer mechanics and provide you with all manner of useful information, but I admit it is probably too much for beginners and maybe too much to digest in a week. You can post on that thread any questions you have on these types of adventures and campaigns. If the experiment works on the flight you may want to keep up with it.

Now one of you will need to be the DM and one the player, and you should keep it simple. I would advise attempting to draw up the PC before hand, it will help with designing the adventure and introduce you to the rules. At least a basic understanding of the rules beforehand will save you a lot of hassles. I think an adventure (or two you do have 12 hours) from Dungeon, Dragon, or this site would be a good idea, though as I don't use published adventures I really can't point you to a good one. Just make sure to have read through the adventure a few times before the flight.

Good luck, sounds like fun.
