1) check p145 in the PHB. At 0 hp you still can take one standard action or one move action. At -1 to -9 hp you are unconscious and cannot take any action besides trying to stabilize yourself. At -10 or lower you are dead.

2) check p138 in the PHB. In one round you have one standard action and one move action OR one full-round action.
So, if you used your standard action, you still can move your base movement (usually 30ft).

Also, keep in mind that taking a standard action or an otherwise strenuous action at 0 hp (termed being "disabled"), causes you to take 1 point of damage at the end of the action.

Which puts you at dying, and you'll slowly be bleeding to death unless you stabilize.

Just thought I'd expand on how much it can suck to try and stab somebody else when you're at 0 hp.

Appending the final bit of information on this, if that strenuous action restores some HP, there's no problem involved.

Furthermore, in the case of actions, there's also the swift action, but unless you have an ability that says it takes a swift action (or an immediate action), you may as well ignore it.

Finally, for the love of all that is good and right in this world, would it kill you to type "YOU" instead of "U"? It's two more frelling letters!

This message brought to you by the Online Campaign For Real English.

I really don't think I could second this enough.

Adding to the list... The Diehard feat allows you to automatically stabilize when you're in negative hit points, and also allows you to have the option of taking a single action (though a standard action causes you take a point of damage).

Thank you. Unlike I, A, and O, the letter U is not a word. Neither are E or Y.

Amen.

What's amazing is that he signed up seven months ago, and still hasn't been pwnd on the subject enough to let it alone.
