2010 Vancouver and DnD? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-31-07, 03:54 AM This post is mainly for anyone living in the British Columbia, Canada area, but any who have been following the 2010 Olympic stuff in Vancouver will appreciate this as well.

I was walking through our local "The Bay" (a large scale Canadian department store for those who don't know it) and happened upon some of the merchandise they've been selling for the 2010 Olympics.

Already today I had been in a very DnD mood, having been musing on some character ideas for most the morning and as I happen to glance at the merchandise table, I noticed something amazing.

DnD has infiltrated the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Yes it's true. The lovable character of Sumi, a half-bear, half-bird monstrosity of terror (viewable here on the left:http://drawn.ca/2007/11/27/vancouver-2010-mascots-unveiled/)
is no other monster than

THE OWLBEAR!

Crazy, no? Just thought it'd be an interesting discussion. Anyone agree? Howabout the others? Any monster ideas for those?

12-31-07, 12:52 PM LOL. I've noticed those critters myself, though I'm not from B.C. (Ontarian here). Quatchi, the big hairy guy, would make a great Barbarian. Just give him a chain mail shirt and great axe, and he'd be off crushing Orcs and Bug Bears in no time.

12-31-07, 07:28 PM I to am also from B.C and i saw those on the news but if u think he looks like an owlbear u should look at a picture of an owlbear

01-01-08, 03:13 AM Maybe I'm just a party-pooper, but I think it would actually be a Bearowl, because the Bearhound has a bear's hea and 'bear' comes first in its name. the same goes for the Owlbear, 'owl' comes first and it has an owl's head.

What I do see is crappy art though. The olympic committe or whoever should have asked for a refund.

01-01-08, 04:40 AM Ok. I suppose it doesn't look EXACTLY like an owlbear, but it's close enough for a bit of a chuckle.

I don't mind the drawings, but I wish the names didn't sound so anime. I know that most are pulled from First Nation's words but it still gives off a distinctly "pokemon"-y feel.
