Elrendur 03-19-04, 10:04 PM	I guess you could call me an old guard DM who has decided to start gaming again. So, I've started to pick up the 3.5e books, along with some of the 3e books also. I've liked what I've read so far, and I've been playing and replaying NWN + expansions, so I have a general feel for character creation, skills, feats etc... Being a fairly busy person, I don't have the time to create my own adventures from scratch, as when I was a wee little DM. I do, however, have tons of 1e and 2e modules, Dragon Magazines with adventures (pre-Dungeon), and at least the first two years of Dungeon magazine just sitting in my basement gather dust. My question is: What recommendations can those in the know give me on converting some of this material to 3/3.5e? I realize NPCs and Monsters will have to be updated/recreated, but is there anything else I should look out for that could bite me during play? And, are there any sites/tools out there on the web that could make this job a little easier? Thanks!
elvnsword 03-20-04, 12:10 AM	Snags I have seen thus far in conversions of old material to new (speaking of which you can get the old material you might be missing at the Download section of the main Wizards.com/dnd). The old material's damage dice, and monsters all need updating, this includes watching out for the intentions of a trap and updating the damage to your parties level. (Ie if a trap is meant to kill, make sure it is capable of it). The other snags are somtimes none transferrable (at least directly) monsters, and converting NPC's. I find that even when using the conversion charts released by Dragon over they years, some NPC's come out flawed in a very bad manner. The solution is to either roll the character up agian from scratch or tweak the converted character keeping in mind they're purpose and the level the PC's should be at when they defeat it. Overall I would say there should be no major snag that an intelligent man such as yourself (and anyone who recognizes the old modules as wonderful peices of work), cannot manage to overcome. When all else fails, run a mock combat by yourself a few times to make sure of the modules outcome. Sincerely Elvnsword
