ok, i know everyone is in a fervor right now over the "big news", but truth be told, i'm getting jaded about this.
that is, i'm 30 now and have been playing since i was 7 so these big shifts lose alot of their punch when you have a wife and/or g/f, bills, work, etc.

the big switch from 2nd Ed. to 3rd was ok and the game had switched companies, so you gotta' give them some leeway.
2nd ed had it's uses and all, but 3rd ed provided more options and versatility. God like wondrous variety and all that. why should we be any different? more choices, more freedom, etc.

when it's (4th) official and out (and money begins changing hands) just remember the most important rule, Rule Zero. you don't like it, change it. it's just a game afterall.

this big talk about stream-lining, ie)dumbing down/make easier to entice new players (and new sources of income), is all fine and well from a corporate POV. however, i would argue that repeat business is good business/smart $ if all you want is cash...which seems to be the new way of things in a more materialistic/hedonistic society. IMO anyway. ditching paizo's mag's, not editing source books well, bad R&D, and this latest announcement don't bode well.

buy the book if you must, but you don't have to use all of it.

when 3.5 came out, some of us were ******, though we knew it wasn't breaking away from 3rd ed. much, but some revisions (like Improved Invis) needed tweaking. perhaps they should've playtested more/had better editing. who knows, it's in the past and 3.5 has worked pretty damn well so far, IMO.
but, there was "stream-lining" in it as well. not much, but some.

Cover for instance. i liked the degrees thereof in 3rd ed. now it's, "you have cover (+4AC)or you don't." not too realistic for me and my crew. we like 3rd ed cover ranging from +2 AC to 9/10th's cover. same w/ concealment. it's more realistic and enourages tactical thinking instead of hit/miss scenarios.

don't simplify/dumb things down if you're a veteran player. it's not quantum physics ppl. you can do this. pick the rules you like and use them. if it's not for you, so be it...
