happymonkey 12-08-04, 10:29 AM	Hi. Just getting started back into D&D after a long absence. Anyway, can someone provide me a link or a list of all the 3.0 books that are typically accepted? (other than the core PHB, DMG and MM). I have found sites that sell the books, but I was not sure which are "official" and which were merely 3rd party add ons, and I have not found anywhere that just has a simple list of all the books. Anyway, thanks in advance...can't wait to play again. -M
Escef 12-08-04, 11:10 AM	Any book published before summer 2003 is 3.0, not 3.5. It's also pretty easy to tell if it's 3rd party or not. If it wasn't published by WotC it's 3rd party.
Seeker95 12-08-04, 11:29 AM	The definition of "official" varies. Ask your DM what s/he means by it. Technically, nothing in 3.0 is "official" any longer, since the RPGA (the only entity that really matters in the "officiality wars") uses 3.5 only. If you are in a 3.0 game, the DM is the sole definer of what is official and what is not, in so far as "official" means "allowed". Further hair splitting includes: "Official" is the core rules, FAQ, errata and content published in Dragon Magazine. "Official" is core rules only, plus the Errata. "Official" is anything published by Wizards of the Coast. "Official" is anything published by WotC and licensed entities (Kalamar, etc.) "Official" is anything with a d20 logo. "Official" is anything by WotC, including the website. "Official" is anything in the SRD. Bet you didn't think your question was so difficult!
Conners_of_Sharptooth 12-08-04, 11:56 AM	Well I own most of the 3rd edition books, I'll give you a list of the ones I have. - Monster Manual II (mostly monsters that got skipped from the first one) - Savage Species (make nonstandard races into playable characters) - Psionics Handbook (not the advanced psionics hnadbook) - Deities and Demigods ( gives stats for all of the D&D gods) - Manual of the Planes (there is a 3.5 one too) - Arms and Equipment (does this one need a description?) - Book of Exalted Deeds (the good book) - Book of Vile Darkness (the bad book) - Ghostwalk (add ghosts to your campagne -oooo scary) - Fiend Folio (it's like another monster manual) - Song and Silence (smaller paper-backed rogue/bard book) - Sword and Fist (smaller paper-backed fighter/monk book) - Tome and Blood (smaller paper-backed sorcerer/wizard book) - Defenders of the Faith (smaller paper-backed paladin/cleric book) - Masters of the Wild (smaller paper-backed barbarian/druid/ranger book) These are all "offical WotC Dungeons and Dragons products" Most of them are NOT worth owning

jake_lex 12-08-04, 03:05 PM	3.0 books are perfectly fine to use in a 3.5 campaign, as long as you do a conversion. (I think you'll find 3.0 to 3.5 conversions for most official WOTC books if you sniff around this site.) With 3rd party stuff, be careful. It might not say that it's 3.0, but it may be. I've seen players bring in spells from some book or another that aren't listed as 3.0 spells, but you can tell by a comparison of what the spells are now in the 3.5 PHB that they are, because they're overpowered.

John, Yes, I have looked at the WOTC page a little bit. thanks for asking. I did not see a clear, easy list of books. Not saying it wasn't there, but I didn't see one, SO, I asked for help. Besides...all the stuff I did see on there were from 2004-2005, not the 3.0 versions I was asking about. Thanks for info Jake. I have seen the 3.5 add-on stuff downloads in case the group ever decides to go to 3.5 in the future. I'll let the DM worry about people bringing spells in that are too powerful : ) I haven't played since they introduced feats/skills/etc..., and the group Im starting with is gonna do 3.0 rules. Hence the original question about 3.0 books. Again thanks to those that tried to help me. -M
Morwen 12-08-04, 10:13 PM	Note that of the books listed by Conners, the Book of Exalted Deeds is 3.5, not 3.0. It should still be allowed in any campaign that allows the Book of Vile Darkness though, IMO, as would the opposite be the case. Other 3.0 books I can think of that he didn't list are Epic Level Handbook and Oriental Adventures, neither of which are particularly useful unless you play in an Epic or Oriental campaign. Several of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting books are also 3.0, but again, those wouldn't be particularly useful unless you play in an FR campaign.
