| Neo_Leviathan08-06-04, 12:41 AM | Heya, I'm playing a 3.0 Psion who is going for the Pyrokineticist PrC. Most of my tactics are throwing lantern oil at enemies and igniting them. I was wondering, how would the following idea work, rules wise. Lantern Oil Hand Grenade One lantern oil flask, with a wick (cloth or something). Light the wick, throw the grenade at enemy. I was thinking something like Damage: 2d6 fire damage on a succesful ranged touch attack, target and all within five feet make a reflex save or catch fire. Does that sound reasonable? |
| PS2_DUDE08-06-04, 01:49 AM | I thought of that same thing, but my DM just said, "Alchemist Fire" But once a ton of devils were coming for us through the front gate of a castle, so I threw a bottle of oil right at it, then an alchemist fire, my DM said that the oil made it so the Alchemist fire lasts one round extra (so more dmg inflicted) with that attack I smoked 90% of the devils :D I got some extra EXP from that game. Just an idea for you. But personaly I think Alc. Fire should do more dmg, come on, fire is EXPLODING onto you that would hurt. So ya your idea sounds good. good luck:D |
| Neo_Leviathan08-06-04, 03:28 AM | Yeah, Alc fire would be good, but considering we are currently Level 2, it's a *bit* outside my budget :P ;) Nice work melting the devils by the way, best we've done so far is burn a wyrmling white dragon to death ;). The only thinga bout Alc fire and other "grenade like" stuff in the PHB, is what you said, it only lasts two rounds, for gods sake, it should actually *set the person on fire*, as in *they keep burning till they make their save*. or at least till their clothes and hair burn off... |
| PS2_DUDE08-06-04, 03:34 AM | Ya really, gj white dragon. My group started the Apocalypse we are lvl 11 Im a Ranger weretigar :D |
| Conaill08-06-04, 02:19 PM | Ya know, you *could* just try looking up the rules... Here's the quote from the PHB (ok, SRD actually in this case, same difference):Oil: A pint of oil burns for 6 hours in a lantern. You can use a flask of oil as a splash weapon. Use the rules for alchemist’s fire, except that it takes a full round action to prepare a flask with a fuse. Once it is thrown, there is a 50% chance of the flask igniting successfully. |

Well lucky you, your DM seriously messed up. Devils are immune to fire. :mage:  edit: except for hellcats and imps, which are just fire resistant. |
| PS2_DUDE08-06-04, 03:31 PM | Well we were in hell, and I think they were not devils really. They looked all messed up and moved slowly, like Like people infected with corpus, if you've played Morrwind |
