Thelandrach 09-20-04, 09:31 AM	I'm trying to figure out the cost of ink for a page in a spellbook. A player would like to have her character make the ink rather than buy it, because she feels it would be cheaper and make a lot more sense from the character's point of view. It says that a page's worth of ink, quills and parchment costs 100 gp, yet a blank book with 100 pages in it only costs 15 gp or 150 silver. So, the parchment costs 1.5 sp per page, and the ink & quills combined cost 99.85 gp per page, right?
Judicator Shekar 09-20-04, 09:36 AM	I believe that those costs only apply to scrolls. Indeed, a scroll is much different than a spellbook. If you would follow those cost rules, you would quickly have a book of scrolls :D . Think about it. Can a rogue steal your spellbook and make "Use Magic Device" checks to trigger the spells?
Thelandrach 09-20-04, 09:37 AM	No, the costs for making scrolls are in a completely different section of the book. We were reading the bit before all the spell descriptions on how to add pages to a spell book.
Marchen 09-20-04, 11:20 AM	A spellbook page costs 100gp for the page, when placing spells into it. Doesn't that include the cost of magical inks, quills, and anything else you might need? I don't think it would cost any cheaper to "make it yourself", since individual price lists aren't listed there if you were to Craft the components yourself. It would still cost 100gp per page.
