| ChaosVirus02-18-04, 06:18 PM | me and my mates have just started playing (in fact I think we are allready playing wrong), though we still bought the books prior to 3.5. Just wondering though if we where to upgrade to 3.5, as we want to use the new unearthed arcana. will we be still able to use other 3.0 books which where not covered by the 3.5 updtate booklet and downloads? E.g. book of vile darkness. Please reply  we are very confused |
| halzmar of geoff02-18-04, 06:42 PM | I don't believe you would have to totally upgrade to 3.5 to use the new materials. There is a lot of nice things about 3.5 but I'm not completely comfortable with all the changes so I've got a cut and paste campaign where I take what I like and ignore what I don't of 3.5. The new DR system is about the most prevailant thing as to using monsters or some PrCs also may look at the new resistances - 10 not 20 in many cases. All in all the systems are pretty compatable. |
| Seeker9502-18-04, 08:04 PM | I am a 3.5 fan (player and DM) but I don't think you really need to switch to 3.5 to use the Unearthed Arcana. If you do switch, I recommend making the complete switch (PHB, DMG, MM) and then just using other 3.0 resources on a case by case basis. |
| ChaosVirus02-19-04, 03:18 PM | We are going to upgrade, but by wuestion is are books like book of vile darkness, still useable in a 3.5 game. As I do not think they are upgrading those books to 3.5, please correct me, If I am wrong. |
| Seeker9502-19-04, 04:14 PM | Book of Vile Darkness is as (ab)usable in a 3.5 game as in a 3.0 game. As long as your DM is judicious in what s/he allows in the first place, you should have no problems. The same goes for any non-core-rulebook, whether it is 3.0 or 3.5 in orientation. |
| J. Grenemyer02-19-04, 05:05 PM | Hello ChaosVirus, Originally posted by ChaosVirus We are going to upgrade, but by wuestion is are books like book of vile darkness, still useable in a 3.5 game. So far as I know they are not going to "upgrade" that book to 3.5. However, if you look HERE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20030718a), you will find a free downloadable Update Booklet produced by WotC that covers the Core Rulebooks, the Monster Manual II, Fiend Folio, Deities and Demigods, Epic Level Handbook and Manual of the Planes. Other than that, I have found no trouble in using my stack of 3.0 material (whether from WotC or other Third Party Sources) in my 3.5 game. As always, please feel free to post specific conversion questions and we will be happy to help. :D |

| arcady02-20-04, 04:07 AM | Almost any 3.0 book can be used in 3.5 and vice versa. The differences are trivial once you move beyond the core. |
| kaladorn02-20-04, 04:20 AM | Can someone give me the titels of the books wich are written for the 3.5 rules. |

| Kaya Kenobi02-20-04, 08:16 AM | You don't need to switch to 3.5 to use Unearthed Arcana. |
